Glenn__ W would probably rise to the occasion and lend a perspective from 'another side' :D

there are a lot of good folks around here although I hesitate to volunteer anyone as sometimes folks don't appreciate that either :p

...could open it to throwing hats into the ring-type offers

I agree about Glenn. He has more of the southern gentleman in him than he'd ever admit

Thanks for the nomination and the support, though to quote Krebs quoting Sherman, if drafted, I will not run; if nominated, I will not accept; if elected, I will not serve.

What happened to palmerq and Jaylew? 2 great mods. 1 i havent seen in a year, the other in a month. Both good mods

As for nominations, since our opinions are being asked.

By far the most qualified candidate out there is Hrotha.

Actually hes probably been asked many times before and i doubt he would accept but for impartiality, intelligence, time spent on all sections, understanding etc few can match him.

Other names to throw into the ring are gooner, and fetisoff, who nominated me, but doesnt seem to have any side in these pro racing section wars, but spends a lot of the time on that subforum, and Libertine Seguros.

As for Parrulo i endorse his candidacy, though i aknowledge it might hurt it:p

Allow me to suggest that no mods makes for a more readable forum.

these things police themselves better than someone whos only qualification is they have the time to lurk 24/7 on a cycling forum branding their version of morality and policing personalities they dont like

stuff the mods

Wow - glad I quit in time to not be tarnished with that one!

Seriously though, given what the mods deal with here that the average member doesn't see, I would say that if there was much less moderation here then virtually every well known (and respected) member would be gone in 3-6months and replaced by rabid idiots, spammers and trolls.

I cant speak for the other threads since i dont really take part in them much, but i know that in my samu thread, it was not Schleck bashing, but rather airstream, who seems to be the main constant in all these threads, clearly with no other intention but baiting as many people as possible, who turned it into a clinic/ Contador bashing thread.

Singling someone out inflames the feud between posters. Some of the stubborn Contador posters are often a common denominator also.

Odd how mods are requested to volunteer but not sought out for hire, yet we know the ads are there for a reason...

Time for someone to eat their budget or totally dump it.

This it not a non-profit website, in case that was assumed by others.

Had you read my post you would have noticed the bit at the beginning where i said that i would speak only for my thread.

how contador fans haters, whatever behave in other threads, i don't really care.

Glenn is not going to be a mod. I can't see Hitch doing it. I don't see him being interested, let alone having to change his style at all.

Amsterhammer probably would be a very good mod. But I don't think he's interested either.

Feel free to keep suggesting people. Or anyone truly interested can contact the staff.

I am in training if needed.

Well, I think Parrulo has been suggested more than once here, and mentioned that he wouldn't mind to mod, yet for some reason you have omitted him.

In the former case (from the names bolded out), I'm afraid dwllsonic would have a heart attack, and I actually like him and wouldn't want anything bad to happen to the kid :D At for the latter, I would fully support that nomination (of course if Libertine was interested). Truly knowledgeable, avoids the wars. Would be a great mod. Gooner would not be a bad mod either

I believe Hrotha was asked before, and politely declined.

Palmerq is still around.

Martin's comment to this is an understatement. Over the last few years we have deleted thousands of posts of spam, nasty insults and name calling, and even graphic pornographic photos. And I don't mean the babes on bikes photos, we're talking nasty stuff. We also banned several very caustic users and sock puppets. That's what the forum would be filled with if there was no moderation.

So pretty much like today but with pr0n. I don't see the downside.

Sounds like the power that be on this forum could car less for your work because most if not all forum software has taken care of the blatant spam/p0rn bots. You guys are like going to the moon with rubber bands when the rest of the world is using rockets, pretty sad state of affairs.

You all have no idea what we do. Sorry, but this and BroDeal's posting are simply wrong.

You have no idea how much forum software has improved to concentrate on the forum topic and not petty bot posts. Ever see forum chat rooms, forum sub forums generated by users to improve categorizations, video that only plays when selected, moderator tools to actually moderate and not play whack a mole.

NOPE!

In all honesty - one of the major reasons that you get quality posters the likes of whom have been nominated in this thread saying "no thanks" is the amount of mod bashing and complete sledging that the mods of this site are subjected to.

If you want decent mods, who will moderate to the standards that you want, who you respect and accept .... you need to show some actual respect for the job that they do, and show that they are not going to be insulted and have mud slung at them daily for volunteering.

Occasionally that will mean taking it on the chin, even if you are in the right. Sometimes that will mean turning the computer off and walking away ....

Seriously - why anyone would agree to be a mod here is beyond me.

That may be. I only know how much I and the rest of the mods do, which the users aren't aware of.

Much like a carpenter with out a hammer, you're not going to get far with the right tools. Its time to get the owners of the shop to improve the tools otherwise you're just in a forum sweat shop...

You have no idea how true you are. Some days I think every mod left is going to quit, and the forum eventually shut down. Something tells me more than a few members would be happy if that happened. :(

(This is all my IMHO)

Well, I think a lot of it has to do with the nature of a sporting forum (only ones worse are political-related ones). Here, you have Dutchies poking at Belgians (and vice-versa), Spanish fans "fighting" with Italians and so on. So it's only natural "regular members" have a few pokes at the mods. Don't think for a second, that we don't appreciate the job you guys do, but just like I appreciate the job every single cyclist in the world, even the ones that I don't like, do, I'm not gonna miss a chance to take a bit of a poke at them once in a while (I was gonna say "when not performing" here, but that could have been misinterpreted in the wrong way in this situation)
