Well, I think a lot of it has to do with the nature of a sporting forum (only ones worse are political-related ones). Here, you have Dutchies poking at Belgians (and vice-versa), Spanish fans "fighting" with Italians and so on. So it's only natural "regular members" have a few pokes at the mods. Don't think for a second, that we don't appreciate the job you guys do, but just like I appreciate the job every single cyclist in the world, even the ones that I don't like, do, I'm not gonna miss a chance to take a bit of a poke at them once in a while (I was gonna say "when not performing" here, but that could have been misinterpreted in the wrong way in this situation)

He has my vote to be a mod. He should be payed something though, it makes one more responsible for their work.

Well said. +1ElChingon said:Since when does a jacket or pledge pin cost millions? As a company or brand label CN is creating a following, we all (well some of us) know of the meager beginnings and how it has grown (to be bought out by a bigger company). The forum is a great way to increase its visibility and following, the parent company knows their print media is on the way out and need to go web. Instead of letting it go out and die the way it is it can feed it some seed features/money to increase its popularity. No, instead it treats the forum like an abomination and scares more and more potential readers everyday actually ruining its image and potential for its future. Leaving the mods out to dry with stone age features is just one way they are putting the forum in the proverbial crapper, they need more and maybe paid/supported financially mods to keep them happy or satisfied with the work they do. Again, I'm not talking leave your day job money, but maybe buy a weekly coffee and biscuit spare change. Yes, there is one who is paid but we all know that person would rather go stuff bamboo reeds under their nails than be on the forum, again doing a great disservice to the brand.
Again, some of us want Bill's work to go on, not be sent to the web time machine.

It used to be bad at the start with the 'Lance wars' but of course the Lance fans all disappeared as predicted but now there seems to be a wider range of fanboys of differents riders and they all seem to behave like pre-teens. There is a core bunch of posters with big post counts that are simply annoying idiots and they are in every single thread and they think they know everything about everything.
Its a pity because there is some really good even-handed posters here, including some fanboys but they are over-run by the others. For someone who is a fan of the sport as opposed to any particular rider or team, its very frustrating to try and engage in the forum anymore. It seems nobody can take any criticism/slight of their rider/team whether it be the Schlecks/Contador/Colombians/Cavendish/BMC/Evans, whoever. The fanboys/girls seem more interested in getting one over each other than actually discussing things.

I don't recall having been asked, but naturally I would rudely decline.Alpe d'Huez said:I believe Hrotha was asked before, and politely declined.

Ferminal said:Very well said. And that's coming from someone who at different times is flawed in the same way. It seems more and more posts are the result of an emotional stance towards a rider/team/country. Everything has become like or dislike (see hate), and where the two lock horns you have a mire of non-discussion. If one shows affection then they will quickly be engaged by those who oppose said cycling participant, and the same in reverse. Why has the name become more important than the performance.
Maybe it's something I've noticed as a result of posting less, but where has all the proper cycling discussion gone? What happened to the analytical and non-partisan debates? It seems that objectivity is an undesired trait, and that yelling and screaming for your "side" is the way to go. At its best the forum is far superior in the depth of cycling analysis to anything the media can provide, but at its worst it is no better than reading press releases from teams.
