Basso totally out of form, will he be able do something in the tour?

he said that before Basso had a training crash which seriously affected his preparation...
accoriding to basos himself it didn't affect his tour de france preparation at all.

as stated, this was well before Basso's accident and poor showing at the Dauphine - and subsequent mediocre performance over the past week.
We'll know more on thursday

Andy rode with Basso in his early years with CSC and is well aware of his abilities. He's made it clear, with likely an annoying tone of voice, that there are more riders to pay attention to than just Contador, naming Evans and Basso especially.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that after Basso's showing in the last month and being down the time he is, that Andy will discount him or not pay as much attention to him as he probably should.

he prolly reached the tour a bit behind schedule in terms of form but with no mountains in the first week he had plenty of time to ride himself into form.

I doubt Frank would allow him to underestimate Basso considering he too spent time on the team and thus training with and working for him.

After reading some of the posts in this thread I can see that this forum is heavily Anglophonic oriented.

There would be some surprised people after this weekend. LOL.

In the mountains Basso will cook the Schleck brothers like they were a pair of sidis and Nibali was coming over for dinner. I hope.

It's just so hard to call. I mean, a few years ago, Basso was the man to beat in the grand tours.

He has ridden reasonably well and stayed out of trouble thus far.

But even he doesn't know how he will perform. Will he be back at such a high level at 33 years old? Does he have the strength to match the more explosive climbing of Contador? Will he be able to ride the Schlecks and Cuddles into the ground, as he surely would have been able to 4 years ago? Even last year, at the Giro, as far as Evans was concerned. But the Australian seems the stronger one this year.

I'd like to see him at that level, but I have doubts. Lots of questions, which only the mountains will answer.

I don't think age is an issue as much as competition, and perhaps his level of mental confidence. We'll have to see if he really has the grit and determination to believe he can power his way away from AS and AC. He showed it in last year's Giro when he needed to. Can he here?

Hoping for a top 3 tomorrow for Basso. Would love to see him, AC, and Samu toast the Schlecks and Evans on the final climb.

basso is always better in the pyrenees than in alps so let's hope for some fireworks.his huge diesel engine will feel good after ancizan and tourmalet.if he got the right form,it will be a surprise to see him dropped by anybody.
