It is better but still two wrongs (maybe more depending on your preferences) with that kit:
1. Shorts should be black!
2. The collar should not be a continuation of the flag-design (here: the blue cross), it should be the color of the field of the flag (see the Saxo-jerseys, here: red)!
That's just a jersey over his full TT suit (while warming up), so that explains the red shorts. But even with red shorts it looks better than the new one...

Yeah, I agree it looks way better, but I still wish they would have borrowed a page from Kurt Asle Arvesen's national jersey. Looking at the jersey again, I think that area around the shoulders look all wrong. But enough criticism for now I think.. :)

Here's the jersey in action...hopefully they'll at least find him a new helmet! Anyhow, he says that the Sky management had ordered prior to this year that all of Sky's national championships jersey's must be white with the flag on the middle. What an incredibly stupid rule, but at least not as bad as Movistar and Liquigas...

Which makes you wonder what would have happened if, say, Zandio or Flecha, won the Spanish. At least they don't have any Belgians or French on the team, could you imagine the uproar?

Very silly rule. The Scandinavian champs' kits have been among the best out there for years, now we get Kristoff and now EBH opting for a silly little flag across the middle? Some jerseys are best with the flag across the middle - but it only works if the flag is horizontal or vertical stripes, like the German or Portuguese jerseys. With the Scandinavian cross it just looks awkward.

I expect Stannard has the national stripes rather than the flag on the middle though.

I suppose it's possible that the want a level of consistency across their national champs jerseys therefore resulting in this "stupid rule" possibly to ensure that the design falls in line with the world champs jersey.

I have to say that i quite like the simplicity of it; the flag is prominent and the white jersey really sticks out and is easily identifiable. If you have seen any pics from the team presentation of TdF then cav and EBH stick out while the other seven all look the same (though obviously eisel is easy to identify given he is beside cav at all times!)

I've never understood the shorts should be black thing. I think it looks very old-fashioned, especially the all black ones.

Agree, black helmet and black shorts on a wc/national jersey looks unclassy

This looks much better than Cav's outfit. :p

Black shorts look good on the Belgian champ jersey, that's why I want it for Boonen.

Quick Step just generally made great champs' kits, Bettini's worlds outfit was great too.

Sky 2012 = Fail

Sky 2011 = Win

I take full responsibility for this. I acknowledged on another thread that there are many things I really dislike about Team Sky, but their national jerseys were one thing I really liked, so they had to set about making sure they made those dislikable for me too.

Sorry for my poor expression, I was not really talking about the general case, it was just in this case that the red shorts looked pretty horrible combined with the jersey (it's like a sausage skin).

I like (personal preference) contrasting shorts to the jerseys, black is of course the traditional way to do that but there is other classy ways to do it too. (The reason I said, instinctively, black was due to the color of the original Sky shorts)

Who are the people in charge with designing the kits here? And do the riders have a say with the final design, like saying if they like it or not?

I presume the back of the jersey would be pretty much the same as the front, so it would be quite visible in your normal riding position.

As for the green & gold, why bother having a flag if you don't use it on your champion's jerseys?

PS - Boganesque is wearing an aussie flag bikini to the beach - it is not wearing your country's colours when you are its champion...

The national colours of Australia are green and gold, as proclaimed by Sir Ninian Stephen, the Governor-General of Australia on 19 April 1984. The exact colours are specified as being Pantone Matching System numbers 116C and 348C, and always referred to as "green and gold".

Is the flag on the back as well or just the front. At least with the new Australian champs shirt it goes all the way around so you can see it clearly from the overhead

if it hasn't been said already the british national champs jersey is rubbish except for the one I think Jeremy Hunt had when he was at Banesto which looked awesome
