What had Henao shown in GT's before his top 10 in last years Giro? Betancur was 4th in LBL and 3rd in FW this year, plus plenty other strong performances in his short time as a pro (including his 4th on Sestriere as Netserk pointed out). I could definitely see him getting a top 10.

Henao had won the Vuelta a Colombia, and Betancur has won the GiroBio.

betancurt won the giro bio though by completely humiliation of all non colombian riders though in the mountains. I think the first 1 european finished 5 minutes in gc to him. winning the vuelta colombia though is winning the 4th grand tour in this world. it means a rider is incredibly consistant and has great recovery and of course climbing. henao certainly has that, so has betancurt. also both riders have won the vuelta juventud, who's list of winners reads like a who's who of colombian cycling legends

He seems to inconsistent I think.

Who knows if kelderman will do a great TT or a mediocre one.

He climbed ok the other day, but he'll have to tackle a lot harder climbs in the giro.

Plus he'll likely have to bury himself so gesink can come 8th.

I went for Majka. If he's as well prepared as he was in the vuelta, he's a top 10 contender. Plus he is the only captain of his team, and will have full support( should he be worth supporting)

Betancur could be sent on duty by Pozzovivo I think.

You really should read what I was replying to.
And I clearly said "what had he done in Grand Tours." Learn to read Ryo. ;)
But then he won't get in so many arguments  :D

He's a top-10 contender because he can pull for the first half of climbs? He might as well be a Slagter: very explosive and then fade away toward the end.

He says he's lost a few kilos on that altitude camp, and gained power uphill, so he should climb a bit better. That said, it's his first GT, and similar guys like Van Garderen and Talansky did nothing in their first GT.

I think he'll become a good rider and hopefully he can find a team where he can really develop next year.

But yeah, would be surprised if he showed a consistent 3 weeks in italy. Will be supporting him none the less.

looking forward to the giro

Majka to podium [/gut feeling]

Though my STB fanboyism might be clouding my judgement... :p

What has he ever shown in GT over 3 weeks to deserve the massive hype ? Top 5 in GC with so much TT and he's yet to prove how he recovers.. seems way too much.

not in a 3 week gt, but he did win the GiroBio u23...

Then there isthis handy breakaway result in stage 20 in his first GT as a 20 year old. Granted, he didn't do anything else in that Giro, but it should indicate that his recovery isn't completely useless.

Of course what you suggest is possible.
Time will show if Majka is a Slagter, but I do think Majka looked really strong in the Vuelta. I remember the day of Valverdes accident, Majka stayed with Valverde for a long time that day, as Valverde was fighting to get back.

With that said, It is is always difficult to know what happens, when a guy turns from a helpers role to a leaders role.

Majka haven't been supporting a leader for enough years to really have issues stepping out of such role imo.

So if the talent is there, I think it will show.

Contrast this with guys who have been hauling their captain around for 5-7 years before getting a significant leadership role.

Aru is amazing. His performance has been beyond expectations. Lets not forget yesterday he lost time partly because he crashed.

I vote for Kelderman, He also crashed already in the stage that Paolini won, and lost 1 and a half minute. Its still a bit of a mystery what he can do in the big mountains, however the way he's riding now he's capable of keeping the white jersey

At least it's the four riders with most votes that sits at the top4 positions currently. Not a surprise there.

Diego Rosa will most likely drop in the ranking and we'll see Atapuma, Pantano, Locatelli and Bongiorno rise a bit.

Kelderman is 2kg lighter and climbs better than ever. Only sad part was the timeloss earlier because of a fall.

The only question mark is the 3rd week and workload for Gesink. But Aru has the same (work for Nibali).
Majka and Betancur will be the biggest opponents

Betancur is two minutes down on Pozzovivo. Do you think he'll get a free role, or help Pozzo?

I think they'll both be leaders. Neither of them are big favorites or tempo climbers anyway and it's better to get 2 people in the top-15 (imo) than moving Pozzovivo a place or 2 up at best.

It's just that Pozzo has already proved himself last year, whereas there's a bigger question mark over Betancur.
