It's amazing to see the celebrations that are still going on for Bini in France at the criteriums and during the ITT etc.

It's not often you can pinpoint the exact moment someone goes from being a talented performer to becoming a literal superstar but that is exactly what has happened with Girmay.

Bini returned to Europe on Monday, straight to Italy to recon Sanremo. According to the team, the trip to Eritrea didn't lead to any problems, but can be seen as more of an altitude camp. His numbers are good and he aims to win on Saturday.

Given his background on the race, how hard it has been ridden lately and Pogacar being on the startlist, Top10 would probably be good for him. A podium would be an amazing result. I would sign up for that.

What's going on with Bini? Ok, last year's Tour had a better course for him, but nevertheless he's been really underwhelming. Survived the echelons in the first stage and finished second, that's it. He's not even in contention for the green jersey, despite participating in the intermediate sprints.

In a stage like today's I'd expect him to at least show his face.

He overperformed last year, just like riders have years where they underperform.

Nah, he is as fast as he was, but he is missing Teunissen. Teunissen had a big impact and they couldnt find a good replacement for this season. Not just for the tour but in general.

The fact is he has not won a race this year and in 2024 he won 2 races before the TDF. the TDF performance was an outlier.

Much weaker sprint field in '24 too. He beat Philipsen for 3 stages, and Jasper crashed in one of those. Beating Philipsen is genuinely impressive, but aside from him the top sprinters were guys like De Lie, Coquard and Ackermann.

17x top 10s this season without a win so far...

including 6x 2nd places.

His lead-out train being so weakened vs last year hurts, but also some abysmal luck really.

Hope he gets at least 1 before years end. Has 6 years in a row with a pro win so far...
