Also, use your common sense, either doping is rife in athletics or it isn't, the chances of one guy being head and shoulders above the rest because he has the best drugs are fantastically slim.

My common sense won´t let me...

Another good point.

Bolt runs so fast because he is the first guy to have mastered sprinting technique with a 6'5 frame, do you know any other sprinters who are 6'5?

Excellent points.... Let me add another one: Ben Johnson was the first guy to master the "technique" of giraffe sprinting. Very specialized technique. High skill level.

Still looking for the LA Lakers. Hey, maybe Shaq will take to the track, too, and do some sprint duathlons with the Shack seniors. Lots of watts :D

Also, your head and shoulders argument is justification is why they as to why they should give Ben Johnson his world record and gold medal back.

Yeah the only problem is back in 1988, people actually thought Ben was the only one. Canada actually had a frickin nation enquiry into it - spending millions of taxpayers' money to tell them there wasn't a Santa Claus. Cheers.

So your claiming that effective sprinting with a 6'5" body was mastered first by Ben Johnson, despite him being 5'10"? Remarkable indeed.

His style couldn't be further removed from Bolt's.

What I fail to understand is how could bolt afford those type of drugs, there is no way he had enough money at that time, and Jamaica is not exactly rolling in money, so I don't think they can fund a program like that.

Yeah its funny, but some pipo here know what they are talking about (alpe, cobbelstones, berospenner, maserati, blackcat and others). Its the best forum so far. i got some good links and know more about doping facts then before.

You´re right, it was Burn in Hell.

I´m 36

About Freddie: i had a good laugh again. But heh, he is a legend. Great music too. Today the world is gaga, so a freak like Lady Gaga belongs to this world. Ugly

It`s not about the spikes for other Jamaicans as well.

We congratulate Shelly-Ann Fraser and Kerron Stewart on winning gold and silver at 100 m dash tonight at the WC.

Just a reminder:

SAF went from a very mediocre PB 11:31 in 2007 to an olympic gold medal winning 10:78 in 2008...

KS went from an okay PB 11:03 in 2007 to olympic silver at 10:80 in 2008.

They also got bronze at the olympics. Tonight they had four of eight in the final.

And then you add Bolt to the mix.

These Jamaicans sure did some fine training during the 2007 off season!

(don´t even get me startet on that (fe)male 800m runner!)

But, as Blackcat pointed out - they are not doing it for me.

Can bring someone Evelyn Ashord back?

Those are not Woman. Kerron Stewart looks like Ben Johnson and triple the size of Michael Rasmussen.

The 10,73 was 3rd fastest ever. Only FloJo-Freak and Marion-i-never-tested-positive-Jones were faster.

Kelly Ann Fraser has a braces. Welcome Miss Myostatin.

It has become a Freak-Show

I think Bolt has moved beyond the simple giraffe or ostrich technique. My sources tell me they the Jamaican coaches and doctors have been studying velociraptor sprinting techniques for years, and it's finally culminating with Bolt.

well, it ain't as far fetched and sarcastic as you suggest. Gennadi Touretski the Russian swimming coach of the best ever sprinter Alex Popov always said he studied dolphins and instituted some training techniques. Ofcourse, probably all BS and spin to cover his doping regime.

I listened to a story on NPR on my way hope from work this evening and there was a sports science professor talking about Bolt's performance. The interesting thing for me was that he thinks the WR will go below 9 seconds within the next decade! And yes, he thinks this can happen without drugs! Here's a link.

Yeah and i think its possible that tomorrow morning i wake up with 4 legs. and all that without doping

Internal forces have yet to be modelled (last I heard). Any statement about what's possible is therefore debateable. A lit review in the 90's stated 9.6 was a theoretical possibility. Interestingly it also stated a change in the trend of shorter sprinters would be required in favour of taller ones. Prophetic.

In Ben Johnsons 9.79 at Soeul '88 he hit top speed in the latter part of the race. Hitting top speed later in the 100m race was not the trend in those and Adrian Burden (respected Biomechanist despite working with fat lazy useless unathletic cricketers) described it as "incredible". It's fascinating that howadays all the best 100m men hit top speed later in the race. They must have all had cancer.

And know we all know Epo works as soon as 50 meters are passed ;)

Crikey, whoa!

I have Bolt at 10.03 in '07 (IAAF site), which is a little unreal to begin with (ie. for a "first" attempt). Very hard to find anything for earlier years. Know he didn't race 100m a lot, but there have to be times (it's not like in high school someone diligently sticks to 200 only and never does the double: everyone is always doing it). I did.

Anyone have the 100m numbers for earlier?

That one in 2007 was the first time he'd run 100m in a proper competition (since he was about twelve years old). It was also the only 100m he did in 2007.

He'd been trying to persuade his coach to let him have a go at it as he wanted to be a 100/200 runner rather than 200/400 runner he was a junior (he doesn't seem to like the 400m training too much). His coach let him do it as a reward for breaking the Jamaican record for 200m.

It's funny that people think he's suddenly come out of nowhere in the last two years. The athletics media have been talking about him like he's the Messiah since he was 15. He was a complete phenomenom at 200m at junior level - shattering all the records by miles. He was tipped for a World Championship medal when he was 16 (in the end he was ill and didn't compete - and then he had injury problems in 2004/5).

The guy's a complete freak (in a nice way) and it's a joy to see him compete. It's a shame some people are so ingrained in their agenda not to see what a brilliant athlete he is.

(And Jamaica have improved in the last five or six years because they've finally got some good coaches of their own - rather than sending their talent off to the US college system to be run into the ground. They've always had the best genetics).

He is a doped up junkie freak, but thanks for playing.

As for the highlighted part, COACHING??? SERIOUSLY??? I simply don't have the words...Maybe they have employed someone like Ferrari to write them some sprint work-outs...

It isn't that their coaches are anything special. It's that they're no longer being burnt out on the US circuit. Maybe some are doping, but not Bolt.

When he ran the other day I thought it was wonderful and I was filled with joy, you were angry and filled with hatred (despite absolutely no hint of evidence other than your own prejudice). I prefer my way.

I didn't watch because I knew he was a doping freak before the race. He and everyone else in that race. Just ask Justin Gatlin.
