Sorry to be pedantic but since they're non-identical twins (though they do look awfully similar), their genetics are only as close as regular siblings. So it's perfectly possible their talent level is quite different (Vincenzo and Antonio Nibali?), although both are obviously good prospects at this stage.

But remember that genetics is only a small piece of the overall 'talent puzzle'.
Perceived differences in "genetic talent" between the Nibalis & Sagans could just as easily be explained by; mental attitude, dedication to training, racing skill, route of development, life experience etc etc

What's interesting to me about the Yates brothers, is that they are so similar in almost every regard, even despite some quite obvious differences in, for example, their route of development!

My feeling is that we don't truly know which brother is best at which aspect of racing. I agree that it seems like Adam is more suited to stage racing/grand tours, and Simon more suited to stage hunting/classics, but I suspect that this is simply due to the subtle differences in opportunities given to each brother thus far. I can't help but feel that if Simon was given a shot at the tour in good form, he'd be able to finish top 5, just as Adam did last year...

I am not sure if somebody already did but I am going to go ahead and ask again if somebody can summarize the strengths and weaknesses of these two brothers please. Who is better between the two. Or who has more potential.
Nobody knows. Probably including both Simon and Adam.

Simon's had a better pre-season in 2017 so we should get a better guide this year - Orica goes to great lengths to never compare the two riders - My thought is Simon is better one day rider and Adam better at GC, though the results don't support my thoughts - Will be interesting to see how Orica approach the upcoming GC races - Pre Giro in 2016, Adam was riding in support of Simon - My guess is they will be on different programs before the Giro, especially seeing Chaves won't be seen until April - I also predict that when they ride the Giro one of the Yates will clearly outperform his brother - Finally don't expect their media relations to improve - They are riders of few words.

Both brothers are highly talented, but most importantly, they are both winners and have racing instincts contrary to another pair of brothers. I still don't know if they are GT winning material (one of them will probably win one at some point), but man they are good.

They're both having great seasons so far, and i'm looking forward to seeing them at the Giro.

Their relatively weak TT'ing is going to make it difficult for them to actually win a GT.

They have a lot of time to get competent at TTing, even if it's unlikely to ever be an actual strength. And anyway lots of dodgy TTists have won Giros or Vueltas.

Interested to see how Simon goes in Pais Vasco as he is a last minute replacement for Adam - Simon struggled at times in the mountain stages at PN, so is interesting to see how he goes at PV - Both are in decent form.

Yep, when it's really counted they've both showed the ability to be no worse than say, Quintana at the same point in his career.

Adam at TDF for example finished 16th in the last TT, 13 seconds slower than Nairo. On the flat TT he was 18th, 7 seconds quicker than Nairo.

It's never going to be a strength, but lets not pretend these guys are Jrod.

Always thought Simon should be better at TT with his track pedigree - Should perform decently at the PV ITT , seeing the first 6kms of 27km is punchy -

It was their only option - Originally Simon's main goal was the Vuelta, hence his fitness was always behind Adam's - Simon has enough time to get his peak right for the TDF and Chaves can peak for the TDF.

Its funny how Orica always is trying to set something up for Yates, but when it gets tough he often disappears. Seems Matty White is as high on him as Premier Andrew is, basically a rider who fluked a top-4 in a very conservatively ridden Tour de France.

Moved the posts from the Jungles thread into this appropriate thread.

I'd say for a 24 year old he is still having a decent Giro, if he hadn't have lost the best part of 4 minutes thanks to a police Moto he'd have the white jersey wrapped up and still be within reach of a top 5. Obviously these things can happen in bike racing.

Race for the white jersey is very tight at the moment.
Adam is the strongest of the three but I'm expecting an attacck from Formolino.

Yates is fading as the Giro goes on, just as he did at the Tour. And he'll have to take more time in the next two stages to have a chance of keeping the jersey to the end, at least a minute. It'll be tricky.

Fading more than Jungels or other young jersey riders?

Probably not, but it's hard to tell.... Jungels ride today was actually very impressive.

Yates himself said a few days ago he prefers 20/30 minutes efforts as opposed to longer higher climbs. Seems he is more of a punchy climber than an endurance climber.

Kind of interesting that he's moved up to within one place of where he'd likely be without the crash.

Assuming the finished with Quintana, yes.

The most likely scenario, given what we have seen so far, is finishing 7th-8th on the climb, around 2 minutes down along with Kangert and Zakarin.

I feel like Yates missed an opportunity today. Jungels was clearly in trouble and off the back of the group, wouldn't that have been a perfect time to attack? Instead he just followed wheels for the whole climb.
