Froome and Quintana will definitely finish ahead of him barring a crash. Who else? Can Porte recover the 1'45 and not have a bad day for the remaining 12 days? Maybe Martin. Possibly Bardet, Purito and maybe Mollema. Aru and TJ look unlikely

Top 5 is definitely an achievable goal

A top 5 perhaps a bit too optimistic there's still a faltish tt (although most of the gc contenders are as bad as him ). And he has yet to perform to high level beyond one week races although he had some strong performance in 3rd week of last tour. A top 10 and the white Jersey would be a success on which he can build. Anything more will just be a bonus.

Very good ride by him today. He looked at a few points like he was under pressure on the final climb but he held on. He made a bit of a mistake in not chasing Froome and instead letting Valverde lead the group at a pace suitable for Quintana. It's hard to see him getting another chance this year to take yellow. But much more experienced riders made the same mistake.

He has to be "smacked out" of his fetish for sitting on the back of the bunch when he's frankly NOT of "holding on like grim death". He leaves himself totally exposed when key moves go off the the front of the group giving himself so much more work to regain touch.

Actually sitting at the back of the bunch is teaching A.Yates patience which he lacked in his first two years - He used to go too early on climbs and run out of gas.

Yates gets a top 10 in GC will be a feather in the cap of OBE's track record of developing young GC riders if you also consider Chavez and S.Yates.

Strangest thing is S.Yates was the chosen one for the TDF.

TT's will make or break A.Yates - He's a decent TTer who may struggle a touch in flatter TT but should be fine in the mountain TT.

Yates gained more than a minute in the white jersey classification. Meintjes was 39 secs behind, now 1.42. Barguil remains 2.35 behind and Kelderman 5 mins behind.

Edit: I realise this doesn't read well. What I mean is that Meintjes is now 1.42 behind Yates, having been only 0.39 behind at the start of the stage.

Losing that extra bit of time today might work in Adam's favour. If Yates can follow, Froome won't be obliged to drop him to protect the yellow Jersey.

As a big Yates fan, I continue to be amazed by his ride this year! I always thought he was capable of this just expected him to take longer to develop.

Key stage for A.Yates will be tomorrow's ITT -He is decent at this discipline, but a bit off the top GC guys - Wii be fine in the mountain type TT.

I think he should be ok, around 2 minutes behind the best GC rider the course is fine for him. He should seal white up tomorrow and hopefully still be in with a chance of a third week assult on the podium or a top 5. I think only Van Garderan, Porte, Nairo, froome and maybe valverde will be faster. Two of those are week in the third week with high mountains, one is working for a teamate and has the giro in his legs, one is off form and lame in the mountains and may be awfull in the tt and finally one of them will probably be attacked in the third week by spectators and have to leave the Tour. I think Mollema is overhiped for this, yes he's in decent form but he has done some awful tt's late in the tour (2014)

Says he plans on attacking in the third week, is it possible he could get stronger? He had a relatively quiet start to the season and is probably the freshest of the top 10, he could well be up there making the moves with quintana, mollema and froome. He's sealed the white jersey unless he crahes, he know needs to go for stages and maybe he can somehow keep his place on the podium, top 5 seems fairly likely given the climbing level of those behind him.

In the multiple WT GC top 10's they've had, I'm struggling to recall any collapse days at all - they seem to operate at a very consistent level which bodes well for the 3rd week.

Another solid performance. Gained time on Meintjes for the white jersey. Hopefully his reserved style so far will mean he'll still be strong in the 3rd week.

Another great day for Adam, lets hope he doesn't have a bad day in the final week. If he carries on as he is doing he could well grab a podium place, that would be some achievement.

Think he may struggle to hold a podium position but unless he completely implodes, he's likely to keep hold of the white jersey.

Gaps are still very narrow between he and the remainder of the top 10; 32sec to 5th and 2min31sec to 10th so nothing's a sure bet with regards to his final position. Top 5 would be amazing but top 10 shouldn't be sneezed at.

Great ride from Adam today.

If he can hold it together in the TT tomorrow he has a great chance of keeping a podium place.

Hopefully he does another good TT tomorrow and is strong again on Mont Blanc. He's a good descender so that should limit any losses of on stage 20.

Yates is more suited to tomorrow's TT. He should do well. OGE are pinching themselves with Yatesbury performance. Decided to have a throw at the young riders classification which is not yet sealed. GC performance has exceeded teams expectations.

Yatesbury has learnt to pace himself on climbs.

He's just a proper climber - never had a really bad day on a climbing stage he's targeted yet, unlikely several of the 99 flakes he's racing against.
