Didn't see the stage but seems by the results Evans was better today although still a big gap to Wiggins and Nibali. Maybe he will be competitive by the Giro's mountains then who knows for the Tour?

he can't have both, either soft pedal in Giro searching for the form, or race hard in the Giro working for TJVG in Tour. There is just no other choice, same goes with W.

If Evans does not have any health problem as last year, he will be one of the three more strong riders of the Giro and Tour, and he could win one of them. He was 7 last year with a virus, that is quite impressive.

I suspect Evans will soft pedal the Giro searching for Tour form unless he gets a sniff in the Giro in which case he might play his cards early.

Usually he can hold a peak throughout the season, but just maybe due to his health issues last year and encoaching age he's going for a very late peak and using the Giro as prep. Hopefully so as it would be great to have a 2011 Evans put the blow torch to the likes of Froome & Wiggins in particular. Just be good to see the guy finish his career on a high. That may not mean winning either the Giro or Tour but as least a podium and beats the borefest last year of watching Sky grind the opposition to Dust.

Please tell me your joking lol, Evans is 36 years old like the previous poster said he is trying to cling on to the hope he will be a leader still. Id be very surprised if Evans ever get's a top 5 GC result in GT's again, age catches up im afraid.:D

Of course age catches up with them especially GC riders who have to back up over the weeks, in the classics, not such an issue as many veterans win good one day races. Evans has shown some improvement. By the end of the Giro, Evans season will be exposed. He either shows form, shows improvement enough to maybe ride well in the Tour or fails to do much at all and you would have say, not long to go as a competitor. He has not dropped form as quickly as Sastre, Menchov, Scarponi and Basso. His Tour ride was not that bad but he showed some fight at Trentino especially on the final stage when he could have backed off but he was obviously hurting. And there is no shame finishing in the top 5 or 10 in a grand tour at the age of 36.

I think that Evans' Trentino results were promising and that he will try to peak for the Giro rather than use it as training. Hard to see him winning, but a podium result remains a possibility, and after coming so close to that in 2010 I'm sure it would mean a lot to Cadel.

Might be difficult at his age to recover from a full Giro to ride the Tour at any sort of level though.

He wouldn't have done Trentino if he wasn't interested in a strong performance in the Giro.

Agree and hopefully this will be the case.
Would be great to see Evans going full power in the Giro.

When it was announced that Cadel would be riding the Giro, he was quoted as saying:

"I'm going to ride the Giro. And I want to make it clear, I won’t be riding it for training but to get back to my best level,".

I guess that the accuracy of that statement will be revealed around Stage15.

He is not so old, he has still cyclism, he won the Tour less than two years ago with clarity, he lost Giro 2010 and last Tour for heath problems, if everything is Ok, he will be one of the main contenders. He deserves more palmares he got, even ha has already a good one.

Chris Horner is 41 and comfortably beat Cadel at TA. Plus it's only two years since 2011. The improvement Evans showed during Trentino and knowing Cadel's pedigree says yes you may well be very surprised come the Giro.

Mostly good points, although Horner is now strictly clinic territory :p

some of you guys might need to find something else to do for a while if Cadel gets up - he's already put egg on the legions of doubters once. they stayed quiet for a while, but they're back out in force again. we shall see.

it is highly unlikely that cadel will ever win another GT but i would love to be wrong about that

i don't think he will be on the podium at the giro this year though, probably not even top 10. again, wouldnt mind being wrong about that as he is a pretty likeable guy and like many of you i always back the underdog.

Yeh Yeh we will see, Basso won the Giro in 2010 whats youre point? 36 is old for GC riders isit not? I cant remember last time someone of 36 got a GC podium or even top 5.

Armstrong 2009 Tour. Around that age I think. Maybe not a good example. Cadel won the Tour at 34.

Is Cadel back? Didn't see today's stage but last time he competed for high placings on stages like this was 2011 :D

I guess we will know more after tomorrow's stage with a real climb. Also not sure why people are saying he has no form whatsoever  Notwithstanding his age, sooner or later, if he is healthy, that form has to start returning and I'm sure he wasn't sitting on the couch between Trentino and the Giro.

The lead group today were not schmucks. If you were to look at today in isolation you'd say he was one of the best GC guys, because he was able to gain the most advantage out of the stage.

He dropped off the back on the climb, though more than likely due to surprise at Garmin, and did a good job on a technical descent before claiming the select sprint for 2nd place.

That said there's a good chance if there are fireworks on tomorrows final climb he is dropped like he has been on every climb this year.
