"Cadel Evans (BMC) came to a stop just after the finish line after giving his all to limit his losses to Nibali to 33 seconds. His orange sunglass lenses were steamed up and he had gone so deep that he didn't seem to know where he was."

WOW:eek:

Respect to Cadel, he always keeps fighting no matter what. I hope he finishes on the podium, would be a great achievement at his age.

It was always gonna happen, he only had looked strong on 1 MTF and their is alot more to come i think he will struggle for a podium still. People were saying hed get stronger bla bla without seeing a col.

Hey TANK, glad to see you're trolling and dooshing up a thread. Not saying Evans won't crack, but the guy was 6th today, is still 2nd on the GC, and essentially lpaced the same as Uran.

But hey, you're a big trollin' trolly troll, so that wouldn't matter.

Weren't you all pro-Piggins? Looks like he has faired pretty poorly for someone who's season goal was to win the Giro. Priceless performance there :p

Giro d'Italia - Stage 14
Saturday, 18 May 2013
Another day of craziness here in Italy. For the human of us here in the race, I'm grateful to the organisers that they took out the descent of Sestriere (I'm guessing its easier said than done). It would have been ridiculous, if not impossible. Not my best day here, performing below my level on the final climb meant conceding some more time to Mr Nibali. Disappointing today - but we look ahead - still a lot more racing to come...

He will continue to fight, but Nibali is on a different level entirely imo.

Puffy cheeks is coming from behind however, hell I think Betancur can still hurt Evans.

having puffy cheecks is apparently an advantage. He was the only one who rode warm and toasty under human goose down head jacket :p

Got to say this is an ambitious season for Evans. He's looking at a Giro podium and he's planning to contest the Tour also, right?

Yeah.Top 3 at Giro and top 5 at TdF and Evans season will turn into a good one. Also he can win Maglia Rossa at Giro.

If he does go for the Tour, the only comparable season I can see of his is 2010. Wasn't in the running in the Tour that year, but he'd had a big Classics season and was talking in a different way about the Giro beforehand, IIRC. I'll be interested to see how this progresses.

I can see him getting on the Giro podium but top 5 in the Tour IMHO looks out of reach. Too many other fresh riders with a better chance i.e. Froome, AC, Wiggins, Porte, Purito, Van garderen, Pinot, Quintana, Valverde

The big question about Evans remains his age. Was his 'weakness' in the final of stage 14 a sign of age or not? If he was 3 or 4 years younger I think he'd stand a great chance of a podiuming both the Giro and the Tour. I think his late build up this season was partially to recover from the virus, but also an attempt to limit fatigue and give himself the best chance possible of podiuming both GTs. With that late buildup will be interesting to see how Evans recovers for the Tour.

Still gotta respect Cadel's fight be it his riding or even what he says. He never concedes defeat while ever there is a remote possibility of winning. Evans has really transformed ever since his World Title win. Compared with pre 2009 Evans I sense these days he is more universally liked and respected due to that transformation as a rider.

good point - he finished only 26th in the 2010 Tour and as i recall was making excuses too - something about a broken arm?

Evans was clearly unprepared to challenge for GC at this year's Giro, having turned up at the last minute, but is within striking distance of Nibali, who is having a stellar season.

why do you people consistently undersell Cuddles? he is a weapon. i say Froome and friends should be worried about him in July.

Awww. The optimism of a fanboy.

Evans will be cooked after this Giro. TJ will lead BMC in July.

that was always a risk, but it's not a foregone conclusion. he's had a lighter lead -up to the season, which may work in his favour.

don't underestimate the value of experience either - i just heard that Dan McConnell just became the 1st aussie to win an MTB World Cup race since 2000. that was won by Evans - he's been racing at the top for a loong time.

he knows how to prepare himself (no pun). guys like Froome are riding on more youthful energy/form. i don't doubt Froome is physically superior than Evans at 36, but that's not the whole story.

Why even do the Tour? Vuelta/Worlds would be far better.

cadel has publically said he won't race (much?) in spain anymore. something about it being hard to source spare parts there.

No offence to TJ, but he's only just won his first stage race and it was against a bunch of domestic riders and two Aussies returning from surgery.

His 5th place last year at the tour was significantly helped by the 100km of TT in the race, I would think he needs to win more than a second rate ToC to justify tour leadership, even if Cadel does have a Giro in the bag. Backing Cadel the team has a chance of a tour podium, backing TJ you are a very expensive team riding for 5th place. Cadel may aim for a podium an miss, TJ can't even aim for it.

I guess if you race in July you get to have 6 months off.

Because cycling is a business and Tdf is biggest event.

After winning this years Giro, makes sense to go for double. :)

TJs fifth place was significantly helped by out-climbing and out-timetrialing Evans and 190 other riders.

What rider has been able to do a good Giro then follow it up with a good Tour? Evans should target the Vuelta.
