Too bad Nibali picked up the bonus today but a great ride by Cadel. He looked like dropping on the steep section of the last climb but fought back as usual. He will keep fighting.

Well I guess today answered a few questions.

I'm tipping Evans will continue to improve as the Giro progresses. Remember he came with only 1 month solid preparation so I think it's unlikely he'll fade - even at 36. His main concern is staying healthy. Apparently there is a lot of illness in the Peleton. That is what affected Ryder today and Wiggins too earlier in the week.

Agree that cadel looksthe real deal after the itt and todays climb.
Can't see nibali imploding though so i think he'll have to be happy w a podium. Bloody good result though, nice to see him finishing his career in style. I wont even be surprised if he sneaks on the TdF podium later in the year.

Huge surprise for me that Evans is riding at this level, he seems to be back in his 2011 form

I still have a feeling that he'll crack on one of the big mountain stages though, but we'll see...

Will it be finished before or after Evans fades away in the 3rd week?

he's already exceeded expectations of those who wrote him off. i doubt there will be any major fadeout, we'll see how well he can match Nibbles.

Evans getting a bit lost for words during an interview

i empathise with Cadel. he's that kid at school who would have had low self esteem and been picked on, but his motor doesn't know about that and he's now a cycling legend. i love that he's not Lance, bossing everyone around - he let's his cycling do the talking.

I do wonder why you keep comparing cadel to lance? there are so many other cyclists in the world, so many other gt winners, so many other tdf winners. Why in your eyes should riders be judged by comparisons to a total ******* like lance.

It would be a disaster if he caught something now. I suspected as much with Hesjedal considering how well he was riding in the Ardennes. Wiggins has been saying his health is good so what to believe ? Evans has to stay consistent but he looked very good yesterday. He has to try and stop Nibali picking up time bonuses if he can. The route for the third week is really hard and the the time gaps in the top 10 will blow out and Nibali is looking very calm and confident. One bad day in the third week can change the CG all over again and hopefully Evans consistency when he is in form like now, will stand him in good stead.

Why? So you can point at those people and laugh at how wrong they were? Even when Cadel had done nothing in the previous couple months or previous year that could hint that he would still able to contend for the podium in grand tours. Sorry, but that's pretty stupid.

I hope he stays healthy. Just want to see the guy finish his careeer on his terms and with the palmeres he deserves - so gutsy. A Podium in both Giro and TDF for his final season would see to that.

Yes the route for week 3 is tough but so it was in 2011 TDF. As I keep saying, as he was short on prep for this Giro I don't see him fading. Guys with Evans physiology usually get stronger during GTs as long as they are not too close to their peak when the race starts and not to many racing miles in the legs. If anything I reckon Nibali has more to worry about as he's been at 95%+ for a while now.

Of course I might be proven wrong by the next Stage but like any sports fan you gotta have something (or someone) to cheer for :)

it is what it is. i will merely be aggregating and republishing each of these posts. i will not be drawing judgment on, nor can i be responsible for how others may judge them.

What a gutsy ride by Cadel. I would love to see him win this thing but Nibali does look very strong.
Didn't think he would be anywhere near the lead at this stage of the Giro so enjoying it a lot.
Would love to see him get some bonus seconds on todays stage but the break may well stay away. If he coyuld get the gap to under 30 seconds by the time the TT comes along then who knows. But a lot of racing to be done between now and then.

Is it true Cadel is riding this Giro with only 1 months real training?

If so then I'm looking forward to the Tour.

given pro cyclists start way fit............1 month seems plenty time to prepare

some viewers may wonder if he is even riding............talk about
B O R I N G..............even the eurosport commentator was asking if
