Dermie said:'Nother good day for Cadel, some of the other podium contenders were having Cadel's usual bad luck & Cadel's team were again on the ball & close to the front at the crucial times.
Wonder if the team boss Andy Rihs has got them on a bit of a bonus to get Cadel up there, does money talk at this race.
Archibald said:I know it's safer to be up the front for stages like today and the past few, but I'm thinking with all these constant top20 finishes whether he's going too hard too early and will run out of steam by the mountains.
Dermie said:Probably not that much up to the rider even though he would have a lot to do with it.
The man who is putting up the money, Andy Riihs, would be the driver as to which GT he wants. If he wants to make his bikes a worldwide product the the TDF is the one, not sure about the US but in Aus (very small part of the world market) & here the Giro or Vuelta hardly rate even amongst recreational riders let alone the general public.
So a tour win would launch his brand & if he (Andy Riihs) there is probably quite a few million dollars awaiting a marketing campaign to launch their product over the perennial tour winner (Trek).
The riders are pawns for the dollars of big time egos.

At Lotto he was left to his own accord in the finale of which he would of wasted a lot more energy trying to stay up the front.
Angliru said:It seems with the high profile that Evans has in Australia as their most prominent and successful cyclist possibly of all-time, any bike he rides would be quite well known and prime for marketing success. How did Ridley and Canyon bikes do in the time his teams rode them?
Archibald said:I'm not looking at last year(s), but take the last two days - 11th and 12th while schlecklet, AC, Gesink, etc are back in the 30-50 bracket. Far more effort to be right at the pointy end than coasting further back. Does he need to drive that hard to "stay out of trouble"? It's not like he's gaining any time on them by being that high up in the bunch...
He's going to need a lot of energy for the mountains because he really hasn't got much time on schleck junior who's clearly cruising at the moment.
I don't think Canyon has ever been available in Aus.

That's so funny how he sprays him with a bottle of Vittel water.zamasailo said:For those who might not have seen it.

auscyclefan94 said:Lol, I think they are getting paid quite well as it is. Morabito, Santaromita and Moinard are all dropping off the back and not doing very much at all so far so they are staying fresh. Going to need a big performance from those boys especially Steve Morabito.

That was nuts....nursed through 226km of crashes to nearly get flattened by race security after the line. #anotherdayattheoffice #TdF
