Congrats to Cadel he was the stronguest man in the Tour let's not forget the first week of the tour, he was always there in the tough finishes, it wasn't only the big mountains.

So as he was won, next year I can start to support another underdog, let's see maybe Ricco :D joking.
In any case this victory IMO cames too late, it should have happened before, if all the Tours were as vegetarians as this one, I guess he already had done it.
Still the best riders for GC in three weeks are Cadel and Contador, Andy as too improve a lot in TT and I mean a lot if he wasnt to win agaisnt these two.
And after this hard season so far, who's the favourite for the Vuelta Menchov, Sastre...Valverde

I am genuinely happy for Cadel. This guy rode his heart out. Also congrats to our friends Down Under on their first Tour de France Champion. For me, this was one of the more exciting chronos I've seen in a while.

You never heard?

Only 6 months left now for the greatest all rounder in the world.

The favourites for the Vuelta are.

Vincenzo Nibali
Igor Anton.
Denis Menchov
Joaquim Rodriguez
Carlos Sastre

and from those who might ride
Cadel Evans
Michelle Scarponi
Andy Schleck (highly doubtful that he will try)
Bradley Wiggins (highly doubtful that he will try or even ride).

Congratulations, but a win that lacked pinache.

No mountain stage victory.
No time trial victory.
He would have needed to beat Cancellara and Tony Martin, and he very nearly did. FFS.

This years tour was brilliant for me. It’s been a long time since that the tour took us for such a ride. during the past 3 weeks I came to admire Contador greatly, and like the other guy said, I've become somewhat of a fanboy.
As far as Cadel, I'm a fan too, now. It took him nearly 20 years to get here. I was genuinely happy to see him on the podium today.

Well deserved win by Cadel, I wish him the best. Contador is a great champ and took his loose admirably. And as far as Andy goes, I have sympathy and respect for the young man. I hope he grows from this point on and one day gets his share.

The tour, as is with any sport, is about characters and this year’s tour had plenty. I couldn’t be more pleased.

I have been a fan of Cadel Evans for some time, but I honestly didn't think he would be able to keep it up all the way to the final TT. I couldn't be more happy to have been proved wrong. The way Cadel always fights is inspiring to see, and it is so well deserved that he now won the tour.

I think Wiggins will ride. He said he'll skip the Tour of Britain in order to prepare better for the Vuelta and then ITT Worlds.

From his twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/bradwiggins)

"All focus on WorldsTT now as the big one for the end of the season with most likely prep being the Vuelta which will be a first for me"

"Only downside being will miss Nat TT and TOB!! but something has to give as hadn't planned on crashing out of TDF." (quotes from July 12)

There's a typo here. I think you meant 'spinach'. There was decidedly a lack of spinach.

Here, let me fix it for you:

As for 'panache', Cadel rode with plenty of panache in the ITT. Did you see how he took the corners even when he was a minute in front of the Schlecklette?

It always amuses me that the Green Jersey for the most consistent rider actually goes to the least consistent riders as a group. Cadel won by always being close. His bad days were less bad than everyone elses.
I agree with that. Points should be given equally between TT's, mountain and sprint stages. That's the meaning of regularity after all:)

Good for Cadel. Thoroughly deserving winner. At the pointy end of stages from day 1 to day 20, and barely missed a beat.

Yes. AUSSIE, AUSSIE, AUSSIE. OI! OI! OI!

What a wonderfully ridden tour by Cadel. He continued to continually show that he was the rider that was determined to win this race.

Bring on Paris and the party!:D:D:D:D:

Yeah thats the quotes i was thinking of, but wrote it wrong. He will ride it likely but from that it seems he wont try,

Also from what Wiggins has said before i dont think he can motivate himself for a peformance in the Vuelta.

Congratulations Cadel..... Really awesome. Not one of my favourite riders, but the way he rode this tour is changing my mind, he really fought for this.

Sadly someone had to be disappointed. I am really happy to see the brothers on the podium, two of my favourite riders. I really hope they can find someone to help them work on their TT's successfully for a future win...

As a schleck fan and an Aussie, it really can't get any better than this for the podium for me....

Brilliant tour...

PS: Respect for Contador, he went down fighting...

Finally, we can no longer say "why has Cuddles got 0 GTs when Menchov has 3?" - now, Cuddles has 1 and Menchov has 2.

I thought - I think a lot of people thought - his best chance had passed in 2008, and that he was destined to never win it, leaving the sport with a palmarès that, though excellent, didn't fully reflect his quality as a rider. Much of the time, it was his own fault. The Evans of old would have sulked on Galibier at not being helped; the Cuddles of 2011 gritted his teeth and took minutes back. I thought his transition as a rider had happened too late and he'd missed his physical peak years, so that he'd be tactically more astute and a more ballsy rider, but no longer have the physical capability to do it. He proved me wrong. We can talk about the weakened field all we like; we can talk about Contador doing the Giro, the Schlecks making a right mess of Plateau de Beille and the number of name riders that crashed out. But you can only beat the riders against you, and Cadel Evans made damn sure that if somebody was going to profit from those people's mistakes and misfortunes, that person was going to be him. And whenever he has to face criticism for the way the race was won, or the lack of opposition, or whatever, he can just say what Óscar Pereiro says, and that's "I have a yellow jersey at home, and that's all that matters".

Evans finally is, no questions asked, the rider his fans always wanted him to be, and his detractors thought he couldn't become.
