Yeah, Wiggo is leaving either this coming season, or in 2011. And if he can sell him for 2 million, and then use that to buy Evans, he effectively gets Evans for free for one year. But he is still doubling down with Vande Velde.

Why buy Evans when he cant win unless he thinks Evans is a clean rider. But he must know what is capable clean and what is not. But those thoughts stick to himself, perhaps, Doug Ellis, and a polygraph.

No one can win of his squad. So in my mind, Vaughters only doubles down with Contador, who can win. Why bother buying Evans who cant win the Tour. Does not make sense.

Bingo! Yahtzee! Eureka! Cadel and Christian based on 2008 are very similar. CVV had a killer final ITT and Cadel didn't. Not much difference between the two, but for the minor gains Cadel will get on GC over CVV the money JV receives for Wiggins is wasted. Neither can win, JV knows this, which is why he went for Contador. JV will probably stick with who he's signed and has on roster and hope for an opening at the end of 2010 (banking on Contador staying at Astana next season then leaving). Unless the team wishes to crack a particular market (Australia is the only one that comes to mind) they gain nothing by purchasing Cadel's services other than a WC jersey and difficult rider.

Nothing ca make Evans win the Tour. Ever. It's just not in him. VDB asking to be team leader probably forced Evans out.

Hes on the bbc being interviewed...

(the interviewer was a muppet.. 10 minute interview and at no point did she attempt to ask him about the road, cadel rumours or anything.. wuss!)

BBC reporting is more focussed on Team GB winning than the actual sport or event it may happen to be. She's probably never heard of Cadel Evans.

Then where? I thought Wiggins was headed for Sky? If Wiggins isn't going to Sky, Evans is a natural fit. But maybe if Sky has the budget they can afford to cover their bets and go in with 2 GC guys.

BMC? That would surprise me as they don't have much of a GT team and Evans was always complaining about lacking a team. But with no TTT next year who knows... Is BMC a lock for the Tour? Landis/Phonak wasn't so long ago, but apparently there are short memories..

Outside of Sky, Columbia is probably the most logical fit. Kirchen didn't repeat his performance from 2008, and the team is quite strong.

Cadel is what, 32 years old? At lotto he was without a doubt the best paid rider and I can only guess how much he made. It wouldn't surprise me if he was already one of the best paid riders in the peloton.

Under normal conditions, he's got 2-3 years in the tank to perform reasonably well. He also sees the new kids, who are mirroring his performance. He seems to be most likely to sign his last contract before retiring. Which teams are capable of increasing his income?

Saxo Bank can't afford him, they're short on money and have been loosing riders because of it. Plus he wouldn't be the natural leader there.

Just a thought. BMC= Big Mistake Cadel.:eek:

Don't know how many roster places are left on the team, but he'll be asking for a few mountain domestiques, if they are his destination.

Would be interesting to have two, consecutive world champs in the one team.
Could end up with more GC invites than they can handle..

Cadel won't go to Saxo. Too many roosters and too little cash. HTC directors have said privately they will never take him, his personality causes too many problems. They would know as he raced for the previous incarnation of the team before he joined Silence, back when Columbia High Road were T-Mobile. There aim is the Cav for the green jersey and Tony Martin for GC.

Sky, for the umpteenth time have said their goal is to have a "British" winner of the TdF by 2014. Cadel is Australian. Wiggins is British. If they don't get him for 2010, they will by 2011 when his Garmin contract ends. Hiring Cadel for just a year is a waste. Cervelo are unlikely as their focus will probably be Hoshovd in green, so that leaves BMC, Katusha and Lampre. All have spare cash and lack a genuine GC guy. My money is on BMC or Lampre because they have ties to his home in Switzerland or his wifes home, Italy. Something seems wrong with joining Katusha. Lampre have also hired a lot of good climbers recently.

Somone else mentioned AG2R, they have some good domestiques but I think their budget is already stretched. Too many medium level guys and not a big enough budget to accomodate Evans. We'll find out in few hours, as Cuddles apparently has a press conference set before he flies out of Adelaide. My money is also on him not racing the TDU and releasing his racing program.

no... it says he HASNT SIGNED FOR GARMIN... it doesnt say he ISNT going to... another case of cycling news putting out a story that doesnt actually say anything...

its like me saying i dont have a copy of mondays newspaper.. that is true... but ask me again tommoro and i may say something completely different...

that said, the aussies reported DB was in america.. he clearly isnt unless they have cloned him and the track DB is in the uk, the road DB in the US..

I think you are being to literal. Do you really think JV would answer the way he did if JV had the intention of signing Evans for next year?

I step out for breakfast and Cadels confirmed for BMC for three years. Blackcat was right all along. Wonder if he'll get some apologies from the initial responders saying he was full of it?

Thank god it is BMC! Cadel won't be polluting the teams I like! I wonder if BMC have talked with Prudhomme about the odds of securing a place in ASO races?

Does anyone know the limit on grand tour teams? I thought it was 20, but it was mentioned earlier that it is 21. With Agritubel's demise and other under performing teams, BMC actually have a shot at a Tour ride. I'd never have thought this a week ago. Those guys really have their act together and serious goals to match a business plan.
