you can easily life of 1 million euros for the rest of your life. let's say you loan this to a bank for 10-20 years you'll get 4-5% rating which would be 40000-50000 a year. a very big salary in colombia
Well, the inflation in Colombia is at 4.5%, so that essentially eats up all of this salary you mentioned.
obviously not. inflation is 4.5%$ so what? that means prices rise 4.5% a year that doesn't change the fact you can easily live of a high income
Yes, it does. What counts is your real-income, not your nominal income.

If you get a 4,5% return on invested capital per year, whilst the inflation rate is 4,5%, then your real income is essentially zero. Your income each year will equal the reduction in purchasing power of your invested capital.
and your real income is 45000. let's say cost of living is 10000 a year and add 4.5% to that (450) it's pretty meaningless
Lol whats your point?
When the inflation rate is comparable to rating there is nothing to talk about..and im not even talking about increase of inflation which will probably come there (public debt increasing + not really liberal policy)

Good tansfer it would be for La Ronca!

It's futile, if Movistar's cook gives the team a salad he will rip someone's leg off and feast on it. It will be satisfying to see Movistar get nothing out of this opportunistic move.

I wouldn't call a potential garbage disposal "nothing"...

If I untersand correctly he says there'll be good news soon, they are finalising details, thanking his fans for always being there

Is he joining the "Biggest Loser" show? :D

He will be unbelievably lucky to land at Movistar, he might even get to lead their Giro squad.

With the level Betancur showed at the end of thiss year Giro he is top ten for sure.
He can improve that and to figh for the podium, in the Giro but as weel in other races as Ardennes, Pais Vasco, nice,...He nmust be a cheap rider now.

Yep, the money combined with his talent makes him a low risk/high reward signing.

But, those races you mentioned are the extreme best scanario, while he the last couple of years has shown the worst case scenaro. Either way, Movistar should help him feel more at home, being spanish and having columbians and all.

I'll be laughing so much at all the money Movistar won't see after this opportunistic move.

Mmhh, do you honestly think they have spend so much? He hasnt done anything in like 1 1/2 years, so he should come with a very huge discount.

As I have said before, I think its a good move for both parties.

Why? What difference did it make if it was in August or not? They already knew who Betancur was.

I believe that Movistar was the only fit for him since they have many riders riding for them in Colombia. They have technical staff and support for him in Colombia. Maybe that helps. Other than that I don't see how they'll put discipline to this guy.

Abarcá do have quite a history of cut-price flyers though. While sure his stock isn't such that he'll have come for nothing, they won't have paid what they would have done two years ago for him if he'd been on a one year deal at Ag2r.

Yes, those cut-price flyers have usually resulted in some pretty huge fails, but not always. They have made some odd calls over the years though.

Antón at least has managed some results in the Spanish calendar, and Rujano was decent in a few races (Deutschlandtour, Suisse) and far better than he had been at QS or Unibet. Cobo had already failed at the same team once before. Plenty of other evidence that they like to take this kind of punt though, especially with regards riders with good experience at the Giro, which tends to be the "development" GT for them as a Spanish team. Soler you could argue was a similar kind of punt to Betancur, both prodigiously talented Colombian climbers who'd been through a lean patch and whose market value was hurt, albeit for different reasons. Soler did OK for Movistar when healthy, and was on his way back to his best when their fated 2011 curse hit him. Maybe that's their hope. There's plenty of evidence to the contrary in their cut-price punts though:

Szmyd - obviously running on empty. Useful knowledge as a climbing helper, maybe a bit of inside track on Liquigas, similar reason to signing eg Sutherland?
Gadret - on the slow-down, never a good fit for the team, well into his 30s, suppose it gave them something for the Giro team.
Karpets - he'd been good at Abarcá before, maybe they hoped they could turn him around again like they managed with the likes of Plaza.
Teruel - over 30 with barely any pro experience, signed to help drill the TTT and because he was friends with Valverde iirc.
Bruseghin - past 35, had a few decent days but his 3 year tenure at the team is still best known for finishing stage 3 of the 2010 Giro with his buttocks exposed thanks to a bad crash.
Oyarzún - 29yo Chilean journeyman, did a really good Worlds TT and a great season in Spanish amateur calendar, has since gone on to bounce from Portuguese team to Portuguese team before being busted for doping.

If any big team was going to take a flyer on Bananito at this point in time, Movistar had to be major front-running contenders to make that gamble.

I think is a good deal for both. We all now that Betancourt is plenty of talent, may be in the right enviroment, making him feel comfortable, He'll use finally and propertly that talent.
This is his last chance, and I expect that he konws that.

Spanish speaking team with links to his native Colombia, Nairo and Dayer there to keep him company and Valverde to mentor him. It's a win-win to me. He's coming from a French team, this will be like coming home. I think he will strive in this enviroment.

It could be a decent team for him, a few other Colombian riders and technical staff and support for him in Colombia. He's also no longer the one guy on a French team that doesn't spek French, I think he still could be good, let's not forget that a overweight Betancur was able to win Paris-Nice and to beat Degenkolb in a sprint in the Tour Cycliste International du Haut Var-matin, even when he's a few kg to heavy he has the potential to be one hell of a rider.
