Irrespective of his result today, unbelievable Betancur was not selected initially for Colombia. The only Colombian who can achieve something today.

It's signs of life at least. Hopefully Betancur continues to build on this over the off season

Without his effort trying to catch the MVDP / Trentin group, a top 10 was feasible.

And if MVDP was not pulling that hard when Betancur was chasing with Skujins and Izagirre, he could make it to the front... and was actually be able to battle for the win?

Great effort.

Chaves also looked good until GETTING another mechanical with 11 kms to go - Considering the parcours, Columbia must be happy with their performance.

The thing that I liked the most is that they at least tried . First put Quintana in the early break and then send the stronger riders later like Martinez and Betancur. :)

Betancur does seem to go well in the bad weather. Wasn't it cold and rainy the year he won Paris-Nice?

He also looked really strong in the snowy LBL when he worked for Valverde.
I guess he earned himself a contract today, maybe on a pct team, but still.
Colombia really deserves respect for actually riding a good race with the kind of riders that the had.

If today's performance is not worthy of a WT contract, then I don't know what is.
I still don't know if I would sign him if I was a WT team. Sure, he pops up every once in awhile with a good result, but the lack of consistent professionalism would bother me considering he's not someone who pulls in big results anymore

The thing is that if you look at his results this year, that has not been a problem at all.

Yeah, he's been better this year but I still don't quite trust him and his results aren't so stellar that I'd take a chance.

The paradox seems to be that what has made him succesful in this race, in particular, will ultimately make him less succesful in 99% of all the other races.

I think UAE could really work for him. Stephens could be the type of director Betancur needs, and he understands Hispanic riders from his years at Caisse d'Epargne.

Chaves cashed in on Australian/MTS good will. He was riding shotgun with the likes of Durbridge, Bauer, Juul Jensen, Haig and Matthews for as long as possible. Can't blame him though, Impey did too.

No harm in Chaves riding shotgun with the Aussie team - In saying that he looked strong and could have got a top 15 or top 20 - Gotta say that Impey was a major disappointment - This was a good course for his talents.

Just saw an interview, and he's riding the Italian classics, 'for me, and for my family'.
