Cavendish' FIngers

Cav reckons the fingers were for people and journalists "that don't know jack-sh*t about road cycling" Well, I DO know JS about road cycling and most cyclingnews.com readers dooooo. And we know a tosser when we see one too. And Cav, you certainly are one of those. What a complete and utter w*nker. If his sponsors think this is selling their product (not the fingers, I mean the nasty mouth and individual) they're dead wrong. He's a joke and word is that the proffessional peleton all pretty much think so too. Grow up or take your nasty inferiority complex and eat it. Or win every race and blame no-one when you don't. You're quick, yes, but you've got the best train on the road so don't whine.. win. But shut up either way. LOLOLOL.]

At least he didn't mime shooting his critics, like Bettini.

I wish I had his speed, but I'd never trade places with him. I couldn't look myself in the mirror - even with the new teeth.

Still and all - it's good entertainment. He raced well and deserved the win. Glad to see him back in form. Now if only he would grow up...

"Good to see Cav winning again. Congrats!" "As for the salut, well it'll give the cycling forum users something to do for the evening!"

Nice to see he cares about us, too.

Bless 'em, didn't know they were such sensitive souls.

what a knob - mouths off about Greipel winning against rubbish opposition in sh.t races, but he can hardly crow about beating Hondo and Hunter...

I get the feeling Cavendish actually reads these topics. Remember last year after San Remo he was talking about 'internet forum people'

Kinda sad really that he takes comments by us enthousiasts so seriously.

I think it was when he won his 3rd stage at the Tour last year, he took as an opportunity to slag people off on internet forums :D

It's still funny though, he makes the fingers to his 'criticists' but what did he really do? Beat some b/c-class sprinters in Romandie, the kind he would call '****ty wins nobody cares about' (like Greipel).

But ofcourse, now it's him who wins, the win is not as ****ty as it would have been if Greipel won, right Cav'?

I don't think Bob Stapleton gives a good god damn about what Cav says and does as long as he is winning races. Columbia-HTC has always been all about winning.

I think you may be right about Bob but you have brought up something for consideration - how are Cav's antics seen by other teams ie potential employers.

I am specifically thinking about Sky - and Cav's current antics don't gel with the clean professional corporate look that Team Sky have gone for.

If you're good enough you can get away with being an *** or a primadona. I doubt it's going to really matter unless it goes a lot futher than this.

I believe this depends, mainly due to the fact that many teams are making a move to create a more uniform team with good relations between the different members. The manner in which he reacts to Greipel and to others is worrying. Also I do not know in what way he behaves in the peleton, if he gets on the nerves of too many riders, these might have problems of admitting him into a team, which will be a big problem should he try to find another team. I think managers will take some considerations of other team members into account, especially if the entire team has objections to the inclusion of him within the team. So I think it completely depends on the manner in which he presents himself within the peleton

As long as Cav is the fastest man on two wheels he will have no problems finding a team willing to ride for him. He might not have the most conventional attitude to dealing with the media, but his team-mates (barring a certain German) seem to like him and be willing to ride for him, so he's obviously doing something right.

I have to admit to taking a certain perverse pleasure in seeing all you guys get worked up and furious about Cav winning, especially since the manner of his win was very carefully orchestrated to make people worked up and furious. He is playing you like a fiddle.

You give the boy racer too much credit...believe me...I hate the guy (as a person), but totally respect his talent and skill. I don't care who you are, his behavior is low ball and not acceptable. I don't think you are right about people getting worked up about Cav winning...that isn't the issue...it is his pre pubescent behavior that people don't like...

I actually laughed at Jamsque's comment.

No disrespect to Jamsque, but while don't see anyone here ever getting annoyed at Cavendish for winning (only for his personality and outbursts), Jamsque and a couple of other british posters seem to get massively annoyed whenever Greipel wins anything.

You need to go back and read my post - it has nothing to do with "a team willing to ride for him" as other riders in his team are professionals - and Cav winning ensures a good pay packet at the end of the year.

But 'teammates' do not hire people - DS's or General Managers do, with the input of the sponsors.
Brailsford is very media savvy - and has built a team that exudes professionalism and corporate speak - it is not the 'fit' for an outspoken and foulmouthed person like Cav.

I always thought the typical American fans were jingoistic tools who will excuse anything that Armstrong does, but the Brits have taken it to a new level altogether. If a neighbor was found chopped up in Cav's freezer then they would be telling us that we are taking it the wrong way.

I am also getting a laugh out of the concept of Cavendish as a master manipulator who is playing us all for fools. I don't recall him ever demonstrating that he is smart enough to figure out the consequences of his actions.
