1983 world athletics championship. Eamonn Coghlan celebrating 150m from the finish line.

Wrong sport...

I feel like there was a case a few years ago, but I can't seem to find it.

In the slowmo he only raises his arm whem Roglic is in his bike throw, so he didnt really miss vital pedal strokes but just missed the bike throw, which doesnt make half a bike lengths difference
Oh, I think it does.

I remember when Sagan won in Bern in the Tour and Kristoff didn't throw his bike. Sagan was like a wheel behind him both a meter before and after the line but not on the line thanks to the throw.

I belive I've just seen Paula Carrasco celebrate wrongly in the Vuelta Colombia Femenina. She might even have finished third.

Ok, it was actually Carrasco who won the stage, but it was her teammate Maria Paula Latriglia who celebrated over the line like she thought she had won herself.

I lost the final stage of the 2006 Vuelta a Cuba by celebrating too early. Borut Božič lunged by me on the right and then clapped me on the back and said, "I bet you'll never do that again!" lol

Loved that guy!

After such a tough climb to just give it away like that, Van Eetvelt will be kicking himself for a while.

Yup. I'm still haunted by the above--and that was 18 years ago in a modest 2.2 race!!

How is that extreme? Celebrating a lap too early is commonly featured.
A) It could well have determined a World Championship title
B) It wasn't merely raising an arm, but putting in effort to sprint to the line
C) Riders rarely misjudge by 20% of the race distance.

I read that all the world cup events at WJ level were all 4 circuits, so that makes it more understandable, but I hope it doesn't weigh too heavily on her.

I Saw this on the front page a few weeks ago, I honestly thought it was a contender for this thread before I realised what it actually was. (I didn't have time to post it when I saw it, apologies)
