So in the Tour of Hellas this just happened:

Second placed Edu Prades thought he had won and started celebrating while his saddle broke off. Instant karma?

I think the saddle broke.

This video is fantastic. It can feature simultaneously in the lesser known races thread, in the Celebrating Too Late and in the Most Memorable 2nd Place Finishes.

Yes - Seeing Aran Gate won the stage by over a minute.

At least he can console himself that it almost certainly didn’t actually cost him the win as it was such a big margin.

I don't think this is true. There is usually more than half a wheel's length in a good bike throw.
Maybe my thoughts were overly influenced by the commentators not even considering that Wout changing position to celebrate a couple of metres from the line could have shifted the result a lot.
