It's sad that the most exciting Double challenge in years had to be ended by injury. He looked very promising when he put everyone but Tom D to the sword.

Totally agree. Yesterday I respected him for finishing and this AM upon finding out he did it with a fractured bone in his foot the level of respect increased. I'll never like the guy but I respect what he did yesterday.

I've noticed that too. Apparently, he is a pretty cool guy as long as he is not winning. He was also a good guy who did a great effort in 2014 because he couldn't drop Contador according to certain cycling fans.kenk09 said:

No, winning or not I don't think he's a cool guy. I'd say things such as his descending in the Tour were great and yesterday he showed great heart and mental strength not to just give in. A true warrior. But, and this is the thing it doesn't make him cool or more likeable. I still don't support him and never would I just respect that he's got skills and strengths in him that can't help but be acknowledged. Hope that's a bit clearer.

The guy is a compete ego-maniac, cycling is better off without people like Tinkov. When it all boils down, he doesn't care about a sport unless he's gaining publicity.

Yeah. I don't like him much either and what he did yesterday isn't anything special as many other 'pros' have done the same and finished in much worse shape. What's relative is what he felt he could do. If he thinks that was a heroic effort, then great for him.
Guys like Robbie McEwan have crashed hard and and continued on to win full on sprints with cracked vertebrae...

Hope Oleg takes a look at that. Doubt he'll change his attitude as you can't just change an idea instilled in you from your upbringing quickly, but that letter is very well written and raises some excellent points

What do you mean? Prior to his crash he was in a perfectly good position to challenge for the win at the Vuelta.

For any sponsor publicity is the goal, so in that respect, success. While I disagree with a lot of his opinions and methods, I'm glad he intersperses the insanity with reform, unlike Vino who seems to be 100% dbag.

If he still had a brewery I might try his beers, but I most certainly would not use his credit cards, or - - his proposed airline. If he took the opportunity to keep his mouth shut I wouldn't necessarily feel that way about his current businesses, so for him publicity does not work.
