Yeah. I don't like him much either and what he did yesterday isn't anything special as many other 'pros' have done the same and finished in much worse shape. What's relative is what he felt he could do. If he thinks that was a heroic effort, then great for him.

Guys like Robbie McEwan have crashed hard and and continued on to win full on sprints with cracked vertebrae...
I don't like Froome (wow shocker bet no one saw that coming) but every rider that fights on despite being injured and in pain deserves respect. Sure other riders have done it before and in more impressive ways (besides McEwen for example Contador also won the 2008 Giro with a crack in his elbow). Froome was obviously struggling but still rode a decent stage.

Hope Oleg takes a look at that. Doubt he'll change his attitude as you can't just change an idea instilled in you from your upbringing quickly, but that letter is very well written and raises some excellent points

spot on characteristic of Oleg in the comments section on that page: "Donald Trump of cycling"

At the rate he falls off his bike and keep fighting despite being injured, or abandoning, or getting dropped, he might become soon the most respected rider.

It's amazing that anyone would expect anything different from this guy...

The guy is a compete ego-maniac, cycling is better off without people like Tinkov. When it all boils down, he doesn't care about a sport unless he's gaining publicity.

I think the same. I dont like that guy at all.

Love how everyone feels it important to say how much they hate him before or after saying well done to him.
I've noticed that too. Apparently, he is a pretty cool guy as long as he is not winning. He was also a good guy who did a great effort in 2014 because he couldn't drop Contador according to certain cycling fans. :D

Why is disliking / liking Froome so frequently perceived to be related to Contador? Absolutely nothing to do with it for me. As for the Vuelta - respect the effort.

Disliking Froome seems to be a general way of saying that you like Contador here and vice versa. I think the fact they are so similar makes the fans of each try to focus on their differences. But you're right, they are two different persons and Contador isn't even in this Vuelta.

No surprise but
no Worlds for Froome
"It looks unlikely," said Brailsford when asked if Froome would race. "The fracture will take a while to heal."

That's good. What would be the point anyway? He never does good in the one day races, the course doesn't suit him, and his tt isn't super right now. I suppose he would have been good for the team tt....still good that he lets it heal.

My guess is Froome will do what LRP did at the Giro: exit.

I'm not a fan of his, but I'm never happy when a rider gets hurt. His Vuelta is over. He's not going to pull a Les-Deux-Alpes Pantani, or a '71 Merckx: that's nonsense.

WTF is LRP?? Never heard of them??
New here, huh ;) . Little Ritchie Porte = LRP. Cheers :D .

What does that exactly refer to? His height?? There a plenty of other members of the Peleton who aren't the tallest? So everyone who is not tall gets a "Little" in front of their name? Again exactly what is the "Little" referring to? Anxiously waiting your intelligent, well thought out reply.....

Porte is a great rider, he has done some amazing rides so unsure why the rudeness?
Nothing rude on my part. Read your post: that's rude. So my "intelligent" reply to you is to go read his thread, the last Giro thread, and stop the attitude buddy  ...

I'm actually a grown woman with an 11 year old son. Just came back because I am a mother and hate being rude. All the negativity on these forums just got to me, I got the LRP reference, I just find it rude.. Believe me there are many favorite riders I dislike, but don't bother insulting them, for what exactly? Believe me I can be quite rude and hurtful, but no point to it.........

Cheers and I am going to stay off these forums, except to gain some knowledge about road racing that I am woefully ignorant of. Not to insult people that I don't know?? Still do not get how it is appropriate to call a grown man "Little"?? Sorry that some of you are so gleefully hurtful, not sure why.

Best to all, hope your days are joyful, and I sincerely mean that. Furthermore, I apologize to anyone I irritated. Just enjoying the men who race.

It's not just the people in this forum that call Little Richie Porte this 'little' moniker that bothers you so much, it's the entire cycling world including the announcers/presenters on the telecasts of bike races, the twitter world, and others. It's quite a common name for him these days.

Fair enough. I am going back to just reading and not posting. Thanks for setting the record straight in a nice way for me, you didn't have to bother. Mea Culpa.

Why would you do that? You're opinion is as welcome as anybody else's.

Post away. :)

I agree, everyone entitled to their opinion and it's good to share views.

Is it worth pointing out that he is called little richie porte because nobody could come up with anything funnier than a lame reference to 50s rock and roll innovator Little Richard? It isn't meant as commentary on his size or his quality as a rider. It is simply an awful attempt at humor. Of course when cycling news forum posters use the term they mean it in the most negative way possible but they don't count. When you see these trolls just put them on ignore that's what you have to do here because there's barely any rules and people know how to abuse the system so that when you respond to their childish taunts you are the one identified as a troublemaker by forum standards.

I liked your post until the bolded portion.

I disagree with this statement. It's simply untrue.

Obviously you have not looked at the member suspension thread.

Please do not exaggerate an erroneous opinion to a new member with the intent of having them believe this forum is a free for all.

I think the mods have done a nice job of keeping the peace, but there are a number of nicknames that are acceptable that are a bit problematic and could be construed as baiting by some posters. For example, look how often 'Mein Climb' is used to describe the Froome biography.

Wow, I didn't realise it had to be perceived in a derogatory manner. Nobody ever had a problem with "Big" George Hincapie, maybe it is intended in the same vein? You'd think so when even Chris Froome says it....

It's official: Froome will target the Tour de France, The Olympic Road Race and the Olympic TIme Trial next year. What a season that would be if he could win all 3, the first two of which are the most important races in cycling.

As the best climber in the world and with such talent against the clock, there is little doubt he's the favourite for all three events, if he can recover from the Tour.
