Froome is only "Froome" in the U.K. and U.S.A. In any other place he is considered a disgrace for cycling. I personally think team $ky is the disgrace for cycling. They can have all the money in the world, but they are the most boring team.

He's also quite well respected in a Spain, but thats probably because he always goes on about how much he likes the country and the Vuelta.

I'll let that comment go, but if your on about what I think your on about then you need to be posting in the clinic and not here. FWIW there are many things in the world that are a disgrace, talking about sportsmen or a team isn't high on my list.

one more outburst of this nause-eating argument. i'm quite surprised about suchlike posts being considered as normal by mods. people deliberately conflate their own perspective with the way everyone supposedly thinks or should think. how the hell dare you express an opinion for all the countries, confusing yourself and everyone? Do you really think you make froome worse by calling him a disgrace for cycling? no, you just show your emotional immaturity mate. as simple as that.

The hate for the man is pretty insane around here. Personally I think one shouldn't hate another, ever.

There used to be a lot more love for Froome in this forum up until 2013. Through the 2012 Vuelta the general consensus was that he's amongst the best GC riders but not as good as Contador who was then expected to dominate in 2013. Unfortunately for the Contador fans, things didn't go according to the script and Froome was hated for that.

Do you also have a brilliant theory to explain why non-Contador fans dislike Froome? Your post just 'explained' why Contador fans dislike him.

I watch and follow many different sports and the story is pretty much the same wherever there are player(s) or team(s) dominating. The average non-fan (of a dominating player/team) would always prefer to see someone else non-dominant win for once (Go Lester City!) but they are generally respectful of the achievements and talents of the dominating player or team. In any group, there will always be a small number of extreme haters and these are the people that will be most vocal on the forums, to the point where people start to think that they represent the views of all the fans of their side, but in reality they don't.

I think Contador is generally more liked than Froome, but this place is not representative for that.

I'd say Contador is so well liked here because

This forum started in 2009 with the whole Contador-Armstrong feud. And a lot of people hated Armstrong
The clinic. His positive ban and subsequent suspension is one of the only reasons haters ever give, and I think the clinic here has caused forum users here to see it less black and white
The 2011 Tour, which I think was the most period on this forum. Every stage was hyped af, stage threads had OPs of multiple posts cause it didn't fit in, and in that period Contador was the one to go out on the most crazy attack cycling had seen in a very long time
Bandwagoning. I think this forum is more centered around riders than races than a few other places. Contador fans have generally been the most vocal, and the bandwagons only got exaggerated when the whole rider-threads became a thing.

As for Froome, he came outta nowhere in 2011, his image was ok in 2012 because he turned out to be Wiggins adversary in the 2012. Wiggins was this place's enemy #1, and when Froome continued with very similar tactics and even more domination in 2013, his likeability on here went downhill pretty quickly.

let's be outspoken any gc contender starting from contador and ending with meintjes would have gladly agreed to have a team Froome commands. just for the reason it massively increases the chance of winning big races.natch froome globally got lucky to find himself in team sky at the right time, nonetheless, he clearly deserves this level of support and manages to convert the budget invested in him into results, otherwise he would've been instantly switched over for a stronger guy. yes, team froome is trying to kill any action of the race, but in his shoes any other rider could've chosen conservative racing too.

I dislike Froome mostly for Sky and everything it stands for. Arrogant, rich, bullying team sponsored by Murdoch. Urgh.

Damn those rich people and their ability to arrange talent...........most successful teams today in popular sports are owned by rich people or corporations.........Chariots of Fire was a long time ago old chap. A certain Mr Tinkoff who signed a certain Senor Contador is also rich.

As you will surely know, that certain Mr Tinkoff is also greatly disliked by many.

I remember when Michelle made an account and started arguing with people in The Clinic.

lol I have to agree that if Mr. Murdoch and company are altogether rich and making money off the Sky Team and the work of Sky riders, so are all other owners. It would be interesting to see the percentage of profits from team to team and how that compares to rider salaries on those same teams. It is possible that owners of teams with smaller rider salaries are making more profit in hand than Mr. Murdoch is making. Funny how so many fans are critical of Team Sky for how much they pay their riders (although no definitive numbers have actually been produced which makes the accusations just speculation) but fail to acknowledge how much money is put into R&D, staffing, technology, kid's program, equipment, nutrition among other things. It is absolutely true that sports owners are rich and are not worried about their next meal. I wonder how many owners could up their budget but refuse to do so because they have to share more of the pie with their staff and riders. Hmmmm...I get that fans are going to hate success. A lot of hockey fans hate the Montreal Canadiens, a lot of baseball fans hate the New York Yankees, a lot of soccer fans hate Manchester United and the list goes on. Why should it be any different with cycling. Face it, Team Sky may seem boring to some but I rather enjoy the tactical side of the sport. They are successful at what they do. Instead of whining about their success why don't other teams become better at racing? I, for one, am impressed by Team Sky's ability to control a race, their composure under pressure, their desire to evolve the sport's technology and the just the overall presence they bring to a race.
