So if it is right he took it up at 18 seconds? Not bad to lse 2 secods the rest of way while cracking.

He lost time on the steepest parts, gained some on the 6 % part from around 1K to around 3-400 metres, then lost time again on the final part when gradients kicked up a notch.

He was during his most crazy attack.

Today was much steeper. He did gain a 4-5 seconds on Contador on the least steep part in the final K today, but lost around 8-9 seconds on the last, steep final 500 metres.

Yep. thats another thing. The stage 2 climb wasnt very steep and favors a guy like Froomer over Contador. Today's climb (the double climb) were much longer (I count the two climbs as one since the descent was so short) and steeper which suited Contador much better.

The crash has played a role of course, no need to deny that, but so has the nature of the climb/stage and the fast that on stage 2 Contador had had a really long race break.

This result will give Contador a huge morale boost. Froome will go Deep tomorrow to finally drop Berto. I do think that the climb tomorrow might suit Froome better (if I recall correctly its shorter and less steep that today)

I am giving credit i don't think even if he cracked he would have boght it back he was obvi not going well. You even call Froome silly tactically one thing we no is Froome would have went if he could. Alo chucks out everyone claims he didnt want to win lol.

Btw, I'm actually waiting to read Froome's interview about how his crash affected his form today.

As I said, tomorrow is another day. I'm sure your boy Froome got his ego ding today by el pistolero so he would want a payback. B/C Froome said he came to win. You can believe contador or not, but as far as my concern.. getting yellow while you are training.. not too shabby :D

Really what happened was that after he attacked (Froome) he closed some of the gap. Contador saw that and upped his pace distancing Froome again.

Yeah if he was doing what you said no need to attack right:rolleyes:. Great TDF in prospect. Froome will be fine you can't let yourself admit Froome was affected. You must have missed Contador and Froome on another level stage 2?.

They would have put huge time in if they both rode and Froome stopped doing trackstands. Clearly it affected i mean what else is their to say it is logical, no?

I said the entire season. One level below last year. The numbers supports my view.

Froome even looks tired. Very tired. No so last year.

AC still below 2011 form. Could get better at the tour, but so can Froome of course.

He doesn't look quite as strong perhaps, and Contador is a completely different rider from last year.

But Froome being caught by Hesjedal isn't normal. Unless he's dropped a couple of levels, the injury must have affected him today.

Can't see him doing anything tomorrow, but will be interesting to see what Sky's tactics will be

EDIT - posted before reading Froome's post-race interview!

Froome blew himself up in the last 500m. I don't think you can take much from today.

I believe the crash excuse.

For what it's worth, there was at least one point today where Froome was in the group and out of the saddle on the final climb, with Contador out of the saddle behind him.

Didn't see it but if you did ... If I had stitches in my elbow, extensive road rash etc I know I'd be feeling sh*t ..

Agreed.....and maybe he got out of the saddle and it hurt too much and he sat back down again - I can't recall how long he went. I just know I saw Froome out of the saddle - which is quite unusual for him when he isn't attacking and that's why I noticed it.

And you are right, he was out of the saddle a couple of times when Nieve did his last 3-400 metres of pulling.

July will be great,Froome is a better tt,Contador I believe a bit better in mountains,he has to put Froome under pressure on cols, and hope it will be enough before 54k tt.

Chapeau to @albertocontador for taking over the lead today. My team mates did such an amazing job but I ran out of steam at the end...

There’s still one more tough stage to go tomorrow, we're not going to throw in the towel just yet! #Dauphiné

Gotta respect these tweets.

“Obviously I’m disappointed to lose the yellow jersey, but in the same breath, I think we can take a lot away from today — it was such a strong team performance,” said Froome.

“I took a bit of a knock yesterday in the crash and lost a bit of energy because of that. I felt a bit blocked through my thighs, especially where I landed yesterday, but I’m not going to let that get me down.

“I think it’s normal that I was a little bit off and Alberto rode a fantastic race, so respect to him. He took the race on when it was at its hardest, and he’s got the jersey to show for it.”

The new race leader said he took confidence from his ride on Saturday.

“It confirms all the work I’ve done. I’m on the right path,” said Contador. “The most important thing is that I’m getting better every day.”

Sunday’s eighth and final stage is a 131.5km run from Megeve to Courchevel, with three cat.-1 climbs and another summit finish.

“I came to the Dauphiné without thinking about victory,” said Contador. “Tomorrow I expect to be difficult. We’ll see what happens.”

Poor tactics today from Froome. He should have tried to go with Contador, but instead he relied on Porte to bring him back.

Probably cuz he doesnt have a clue what this word mean:rolleyes:

actually i think this was one of the very rare moments, froome did the right,"tactical" thing. he didn't follow alberto. he would have imploded and lose more than 30 sec. instead he let richie for some time and then full gas. definitely gave his best

he's crazy enough to go full asteroid 65 million years ago strong tomorrow on minicourchevel but i doubt it. it's just the dauphine
