Another question - when was the last time Froome did a GOOD TT? He seems to have regressed a bit in that department.

He was 1st in last years Dauphine TT. Since then he has done 3 TT's. He has placed 10, 63, and 10. The 63rd placing was the last tt of the vuelta were all the gc guys took it easy. The other two results are too bad and you could argue that he wasn't in top form for them.

It doesn't take much to go wrong for Froome's form to drop quite dramatically does it? We've seen that quite constantly since his break through at the 2011 Vuelta. Pre-Dauphine 2012 he was struggling terribly with another bout of Bilharzia. Struggled in the 2012 Vuelta, albeit a 4th place finish was pretty good after riding the Tour. 2013 was pretty much perfect aside from a couple of slightly below par days in Tirreno and in the 3rd week of the Tour. 2014, he was below par at Catalunya after his back injury caused him to miss Tirreno. The Dauphine crash then affected him badly. Crashes at the Tour understandably ended his race. He then never recovered his best form for the Vuelta. 2015, illness has caused him to miss Tirreno again and he's nowhere near his best form in Catalunya.

If everything goes right then he's very hard to beat but I think it's fair to say he's the most fragile of the ''big four'' GC riders.

I agree, think he pushes his physiology/physiqhe to the limit to achieve top form and is susceptible to dips in form if he isn't in perfect shape, plus in doing so makes him susceptible to illness.

That's right. Quintana, Nibali and Contador are much smaller and don't have to be quite as thin as Froome does to be competitive on the climbs.

maybe because this year TDF, ITT isn't a factor that much. I bet next year if TDF decides to put long ITT, he is back on being the beast in ITT again.

Totally agree. Recovery seems to be slower than others and being quite so skeletal must make you more likely to get ill.

I have no concerns about Froome & form ...he wil be good come June & top come July
I do have a few concerns about Porte though....like can he hold his remarkable form through the Giro and then how will he ride the Tour ??
Some SKY riders are on the edge of top form a the moment ...wonder will they still be there in July ...may need to ease off a bit ....

Yeah Porte is in great form but needs to be in this kind of form in two months' time, not now.

Yeah, well i've read a Porte interview (can't find it) yesterday, where he says that he's feeling better than ever, and he will use the next month to improve his condition for the Giro.

It'll be scary if he actually gets any better. I thought he was peaking right now for sure. Hope he's bluffing.

I'm sure Froome will be there in July, but i think he's very fragile. When everything goes according to the plan he is a beast, but a small bump and his performance really drops. Would love to see how he'll do with bad weather in the Tour again. But this time it has to be in the mountains ofc.

Yes I remember flicking through that Porte interview too, he still says he will improve come May but of course so will Contador, Uran, Aru ect.

As for Froome I don't think the bad weather harms his performance should he already be in form, just look at Romandie the last couple of years where it can be pretty terrible. He does seem to get ill quite a lot though which I suppose comes with having to be so skinny. Last year was mainly down to confidence caused by crashing plenty of times, his Dauphine crash was pretty brutal and he still showed the signs of that come July.

Plan B: Porte attempts the Giro Tour double with Froome as his superdomestique

Not sure about that. He's becoming more unreliable than Porte B. Plan himself.

We will see in Romandie what kind of Froome will get this year and i'm pretty sure he'll be up to the task.Last year he wasn't really flying in Catalunya either,ok he wasn't this bad but still.

He seriously needs to be pulled from this race. He's proving nothing, and if he's still ill, he can only be making it worse. If he needs the racing days, do pais vasco after more recovery time.

What's the fuss? Froom is taking Nibali's approach obviously.
Not even Nibali would have lost 27 minutes today.

Very mysterious. Let's hope it's not bazilla.

Nibali was flying compared to this Froome. You just cannot loose 27 min. Plus the guy was destroying everybody in February. Mysterious indeed.

Could it be that he simply just decided to take a chill with the grupetto? People on this forum sometimes make such a big drama. Let's wait and see what he says.

Perhaps he did. He was often seen chilling with the grupetto in his Barlo World days.

Well he doesn't look too bothered with his form if we consider his yesterday tweet:"Some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue. Today I felt like the statue"
