Could it be that he simply just decided to take a chill with the grupetto? People on this forum sometimes make such a big drama. Let's wait and see what he says.

I'm not sure that really cuts it. Unless these are mind games a sort of Porte now, Froome later 1-2 on Alberto. But, honestly, the most likely explanation is I he's still recovering from his chest infection, maybe didn't want to skip two races in a row and felt it would be at least good training to show up.

Yes that's what i meant ;) he is still recovering, so no need to push your body to the limit if you know you won't win, but still good training still.

yep rm7, kudos to him for still going while recovering from illness, I hope he does Pais Vasco now though

agree, great to see Froome back where he belongs. Long may it continue.

If he's had the flu virus (chest infection symptoms too) which is going around by me I'm surprised he's riding at all. It's brutal, I've had it for over 2 weeks and can't shift it. If it's that I'm not surprised he's going how he is.

He knew that he can't compete with Alberto and the rest of favorites so for what he had to suffer. I think Froome in good shape will be back at Tour de Romandie not earlier.

He seriously needs to be pulled from this race. He's proving nothing, and if he's still ill, he can only be making it worse. If he needs the racing days, do pais vasco after more recovery time.

I read an interview after yesterday's stage in which he said that he's back to full health and happy with where he's at. He was struggling at the back of the peloton on the flat on stage 2 and six of his teammates were stronger than him today so I'm not sure I believe him.

Strange thing is that he suddenly disappeared from all news, he's barely mentioned on sky website where Porte is praised for today

Chris Froome set his own pace on the climb as he continued his return from illness, while race leader Rolland slipped out of contention

It's odd how cycling media just completely ignore the Dawg. As if it's totally normal and expected that he finishes 27 minutes back. No mention. Instead everyone acts like this was always going to be the Porte Show.

Maybe Froome just made a wise decision. He came back from illness, pushed himself for a few days. Found out he isn't at full strength yet and when you force things you might get ill again or pay the price later on in the season, so he decided to take it easy.

People are always so black/white on results... it's stupid

Is he racing again before Romandie?

But then I don' understand why he wanted to take part in the race. He is a very competitive guy so it shouldn't be easy for him to see how he is getting dropped so easily.

Maybe it's related to his image or PR (just speculation). Last time the organizer of TA was pissed because Froome pulled off at the last minutes. So maybe he didn't want to do that again. Besides, he can't afford to miss back to back racing opportunity to get racing miles even though he knows he might not be competitive. He saw Contador struggled in TA. So it's not unheard off that he'll be sucks after illness. I don't think people are so B/W. They are just wondering. Froome is very competitive guy. But, Froome does seems very fragile. He got ill early season in the past two years. Sure he'll be ready on July. Right now the spotlight is with Porte who's flying high.

Some of you are just strange.

First it's the contador disaster in TA.

Then it's Porte gonna be defeating contador in the giro

Now it's Froome declining.

Jesus lol

All we need is for a reporter to ask him what's going on and it will be settled. At the moment his PR seems to be posting cat photos on instagram once a week.

well looks like most of the reporters are busy interviewing Porte since he is the shinning star in the 'Sky' at the moment. Even their website just saying chris froome is setting his own pace while he is returning from illness.

Well said Dekker.

Im absolutely sure that barring more illness Froome will be ready to go in the Tour, just like we will see a different Contador at the Giro.
