Chris Froome: I will try to win a stage in the TDF 2023 (french)

“The Tour de France always remains the ultimate goal. This is the event on which I experienced my most beautiful emotions, the race where all the best runners in the world compete in their best shape. ÉEmptyingly, I'm not going to go on the Tour to play the general, but if I can try to make a hit on a stage, like last year at the Alpe d'Huez, that would be great."

Why does Chris Froome keep talking?
As for the Alpe d'Huez stage being a "hit" who does he think he is kidding?
We all saw what happened. The peloton was doing absolutely nothing and with huge help from Tom Pidcock, Froome was able to catch the breakaway.
They arrived at the foot of the Alpe together, but Froome was 2min 6sec behind at the top.
He did not remotely challenge for that stage.

It was a standout performance compared to what he has shown the last 5 years. But that's only because he's not really a World Tour level athlete anymore.

For the non-French readers amongst us I felt I had to translate this part of the interview for you.
Chris could have said this on any day in the last three-and-a-half years.....in fact he has, repeatedly.
Is he trying to convince himself? Sylvan Adams?
If you want an insight into Chris's "power data" take a look at his TimeTrial performances. They have not improved by even the tiniest of margins since his crash.
Enjoy.
“We will see what else can happen. I don't want to limit myself. I keep working hard and improving. In terms of power data, I am progressing month after month, week after week since this famous big drop, it is encouraging. As long as there are positive signals, as long as I continue to find a level that is always a little more interesting, I will keep the motivation”.

There's always neutral services Froomey...
