There's a lot of talk about Pog's double and Vingo's form but they won't be main protagonists in July...#5 incoming

Correct. In 2011 his results just before the Vuelta were also poor, the best was a TdR 15th place. I know he's far away from that, but in science it's all about recreating the conditions to repeat sucess. He was 85th in GC in his last race before the 2011 Vuelta, so today he was even 47th! That's basically the same.

47. You can makes lot of views of this results...

One, he was here just to help the team after to be off almost 3 months and was at the front till the summit of the second of three climbs of the day, with similar time lost than current winner of Fleche Valone...

Two. what most of you are doing

Both have his sense...

We have to wait thil the last stages to Dauphine to make a better evaluation.

I don't often read this thread, but no, you can make one view of this result, not many.

He is done and has been for many, many years.

Why are you kidding yourself?

This is absolutely crazy. From a performance perspective, Froome showed absolutely NOTHING this year to justify this decision on a sporting level. Imagine if Fromme shows absolutely nothing at the Dauphiné and still goes there as captain.

Edit: And what profile exactly do spnsors expect....there was some PR-potential left on Froome in the first two years at IPT, but not anymore.

If he show absolutely nothing at Dauphine I agree. But the race has just started. I think leaders here are Derek Gee and Bennet, but for le Tour I think k Froome is the stronger man Who has the team or at least no doy is much stronger. Today stages are shorter and that IS even worse when you are older, but for a third week of le Tour I think he IS the stronger, and he showed that his last Tour, the only day he didnt really try the break and try tobstay closse to the best.

https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/tour-de-france/2022/stage-16. He was that day in the group of Enric Más, he was leader of Movistar and better than Bardet, Who was days before second of GC, better than Pogacar. Nobody of the team got that except if they were in the break of the day. And he was as well third at Queen stage at Alp Dhuez, just behind Pidcock, and Meintes who was very strong that Tour looking stages. The problem for Froome is that he want to try an stage...but people as Bardet said they want to try an stage...they are going to chose the same oned, Froome is not at the level showed Bardet this Giro ..Bardet wanst super, but Froome I think cant reach that level..he didbt show that level the last years..but nobody of the team can reach, and if you have 4 Tours , you deserves respect, he has working lot of races for hid mates , but he has to show something this Dauphine, at least a clear progress.

Today is a short stage and the weather will be quite bad like yesterday, so I think he Will be aroud 100th, I Will be very surprised if he IS top 50, but we have to wait till last days to see how he is.

The story is insane tbh. They say IPT weren't happy with Woods 'only winning a stage' & not being a factor in GC last year so this year they're taking Froome instead.

That would be the equivalent of Visma - Lease a Bike hiring Contador for the 2024 TdF if Vingegaard doesn't make it.

it's just l'Equipe and the French stirring the pot. both Froome and Woods joked about it on twitter

In fact Woods was the only good from the team last year, but maybe he expected more from him. For me if Woods ok after his Crash he should be on le Tour. But if Froome finish quite well Dauphine he should be as well. But Woods desnt have races on his program, to go to le Tour after a Crash no riding a race before IS not good.

There is nothing new in sponsors interfering in team selection for bigger races, and, even smaller races. I doubt it will ever change. Froome being in the team does not unduly affect the team's strategy in the TDF.

Woods is just an ex-runner while Froomie is a Tour great. He's had 2 years of hard miles since his previous Tour, we'll witness a monster in July!

Peak Froome was a runner, too

I'd like him to finish one final Tour, after he had to leave the race 2 years ago while being in a decent shape. It probably should have been last year though.

I don't think anybody argues that he shouldn't go if he was in decent shape to ride it. He'd have to surprise massively though, given the results so far, in the Dauphine to justify going as team leader. As of now it's unclear if he's in any shape to ride the Tour at all. His last result he barely made it in the Top 50 finishers in a Race with less than 100 starters.
