How can you sanction somebody for going home before the end of a race? I bet a sizeable number of DNF's don't make it to the finish if their transport is not at the finish.

Rule 184. A Rider who has abandoned the Race must attend within 30 (thirty) minutes of the finishing time of the last classified Rider.

Because its in the rule book.

So Levi, CVV, Danielson etc dope for years and cheat. They talK to the USADA to "get" Lance, thus only 6 month suspension.

This guy abandons, probably ****ed off he failed to do welland gassed, so just leaves, and 2hrs later they call him to say you are getting controlled? 1yr suspension.

The rules are f'ed up. From the bike setup details which always favor a very specific type of rider, to wheel size regs, to anything. Nothing just in there. I've dealt with UCI rulemakers first hand, and got to see how messed up they are. The right way is avoided at all cost.
If you are off the back of a race and also su a mechanical, say an exploded tire, you could be totally f'ed. They could get you on the DNF list due to being too far of the back, and at the same time hand you a ban. All legally. Only a time machine will avoid your ban. Sometimes there is force majeur, and proper investigation can establish this. Give Bassons a strike. He didn't show up where he was expected.

Ordinarily I would think a ban was just for missing a test he knew was a possibility. Now that it has been proven that tests mean nothing, now I am not so sure about this punishment.

Insignificant is right. The only people making a big deal out of this is the people who imagine a UCI ghost around every corner.

I think history will show you to be a UCI/Pat puppet, or at least interested in the status quo, maybe a USA Cycling connection.

You pop up routinely to diminish UCI criticism but don't seem to contribute much or appear for anything much else here.

Some good news. Bassons won his appeal case and is completely exonerated. He will be racing at the mountain bike World Championships in June.
