Preparation for Vuelta went well, they are going for top 10. He only needs to be a domestique for Kuss if Kuss would be the leader.

No word on his disastrous TT this week though.

Yeah, but I want to hear an actual explanation
He started the hard part mid-pack and used a ton of energy to regain contact. That's when Gall and others upped the ante and he had to mind his numbers. There are many guys that need to ask why a 22 yo punk from Tucson Arizona is finishing in the front group, too. It's the last GT and the disparity between rested riders and unrested will get more obvious.

why? because he's strong, because he finished 5th in GC at TdSuisse, because we already saw he can be strong uphill

Seems to me like a guy who lived like a professional super early, maxed out his talent super early as a result, and then really wanted to believe hitting his ceiling had to do with being on the wrong team.
I know for a fact he didn't start training like a pro until, well, he was actually a pro. His usual amount of training hours whilst with Auto Eder were between 12 and 15 hours per week, a far cry from where it is now. I have no insights into his nutrition at that time, but his baby fat didn't scream early professional to me.
