Reminds me of the problems he had in Europe after he left Selle Italia.

no. rujano was sick yesterday and didn't recover. it's his biggest problem in cycling, once he feels bad he doesn't eat or his body doesn't coop with it. he was in the first 25 best climbers yesterday before his bike change and then totally faded away.

today btw another incredibly exciting stage!! leon grabbed in final hundreds of meters. attacks from favorites everywhere. this rcn will be one of the hardest in years

Rujano sick, again?
Let's hope it doesn't last as long as the last time.
5 years is one heck of a recovery period.

He actually said that he tore a muscle in his leg in Sunday's stage, which is why he withdrew.

Everybody was looking to him as a favorite for stage 2, but it seemed like he lost alot of time.

Marvan Angarita won today's stage, which ended in a mass sprint. Two in a row for Movistar.

Not exactly a photo finish...

Pretty much all the wins have been like that. The winner wins with a pretty decent gap, while the pack behind them sprints for second.

This was a little different though - the peloton was together coming into the finale. In previous stages, there have been small groups fighting it out.

actually in this stage there was also a late attack by jader betancourt who was caught just before finish by a sprinting angarita who is in this field at least 4 levels above any other sprinter

rujano is always drama and probably he will always be like that.you can't be surprised when the only guy whom he had as a friend while at quickstep was frank vandenbroucke, another brilliant enigma.
it seems that the formesan guys aren't happy about the situation:

i'm still awaiting the season when rujano will do giro-vuelta.i hope it will be next year.

So they were expecting some decent performance but in exchange he retired with four other venezuelan riders? That's what it say's in Google translate. If this is true why would the other compatriots would retire?

I really would not pay much for this guy. Time after time he seem to suffer from unknown illness.

It wasn't unknown - he claimed to have torn a muscle in his leg. I think the annoyance stemmed more from the fact that once he was gone, the rest of the Venezuelans (staff and riders) packed their bags as well instead of staying on to try and help salvage something from the race, which would have been the professional, and correct, thing to do.

Here is the Spanish press release: http://www.biciciclismo.com/cas/site/noticias-ficha.asp?id=43889

Let's look on the bright side - at least he got some international publicity for the Clasico RCN!

Anyway, today's stage was won by Alejandro Serna. Wilson Cepeda, one of Rujano's abandoned teammates, finished 2nd, and Henao was 3rd, picking up 4 bonus seconds plus another 5 seconds on Infantino and others. He now leads Infantino and Rodas by 35 seconds, Atapuma by 1.12 and Cardenas by 2.34. Tomorrow is La Linea.

I know about the pulled muscle thing. I was just trying to be sarcastic. I guess I forgot to put the face. Regardless of what he said nowadays you never know whether the riders are telling the truth or not anyway.

today one of teh days of truth with the linea. henao lost many minutes here in the vuelta this year. it's a climb that suits him less, long and steep...

I thought they were doing the Linea from Cajamarca, which is easier. Starting from Ibague. And the finish is far away from the top anyway. So Henao should be OK.

I expect/hope that EPM will send Ortega and Baez on the attack to put pressure on Antioquia, who are without Acevedo and Sevilla. Could be a great stage.

indeed sems they are doing from cajamarca, which is not much less. it only starts off less hard but in final 13 k is over 8%, total 23 km long at 6.1%

but before linea is already some hard climbs. there will be fireworks from the beginning and in downhil henao can lose a lot more, especially to guys like ortega. the downhil will be very hard, also depending on weather. that it's far from finish doesn't mean that much as after linea there will be not much orhanisation and the leaders will downhil hard. henao is good downhiller but not one of the best in colombia either. rodas is though, will be interesting to see if he can go for his own, yesterdaty he did in fact attack in final k and henao closed the gap himself.... maybe antioquia prefer someone to win that stays in team?....
