then again, why Colombia would have OOC tests if the number of pro peloton riders in late 90s/2000s was just a handful....who would invest in lab if there was no need for it? Now, there is a need (more than 20 colombians in the pro peloton) so now there is a need, and there is a lab in bogota now...who would have thought!
The fact that we ended up close to number 1 in the UCI rankings in cycling and still close to it merit changes in the testing programs anyway. I would not worry about any other sport.

Pretty amazing to think Colombian Olympic athletes have never been OOC tested because there is no lab to do it.

Incorrect.

Colombian athletes have never been tested out of competition for the Athlete Biological Passport.

They have been submitted to regular out of competition tests.

Is cycling the only sport in Colombia? I would have thought running and athletics (oops nearly said soccer - ok soccer since 2006) would be pretty popular and require OOC testing also?

what? there is no other sport than cycling that has ooc testing since only a few years. and yes cycling is pretty much the only sport in colombia with some roller skating and football.

If your job is to be healthy and ready to race, adding extra 14-20 hour travel days throughout the season is not going to make that any easier.

colombians only travel a few times a year back and forth at the most. usually only once like quintana last year. yeah that must be a massive load. also explain how many riders who travel to colombia come back completely out of form like betancurt and duarte.

The idea that riders from a poor country wouldn't dope and enrich their lives and that of their families beggars belief. Are Colombians different to the rest of the human race. Do Colombians not have a cheating gene?

No they don't! but they cheat just like everybodyelse.
you guys are missing the overall point Ryo is trying to make.
It goes something like "when it comes to Colombians, let's collectively stick our heads in the sand!"

You misinterpret what Ryo is saying. Not sure if you are doing it on purpose or not. He has defended MOST colombians. He has said that some probably doped, like Botero and Victor Hugo Peña. No one has talked too much about Ardila, but probably doped because of his association with Dennis Menchov.
Ryo has stated before that some current riders can be seen as suspect, like Betancur and Duarte. Duarte, do to a previous issue, Betancur, mostly do to attitude.
He has been very defensive of Quintana, Henao, Uran and others. Chaves is from the same school, so makes sense to defend.

Funny, he's on record defending Botero because the fed exonerated him and there's no proof. Same with Peña, implicitly, since he's often said no Colombian rider had ever been proven to have doped in Europe.

Then again, Ryo is also on record saying WT cycling has basically been cleans for like half a decade.

should I conclude that all slovaks are not clean?

Which would make sense. But this year he is already back in Colombia. Travel takes its toll on the body. Will be interesting to see where he goes after the Giro.

I don't understand increasing stress, risk of illness that comes with additional travel.

And that sayer was clean and that it's funny watching those idiots in the clinic speculate that he might.

This year Quintana is a new father. Perhaps he wants to train where he can see his infant daughter, since he'll be away from home for a long time later this season.

You should not conclude that they are all clean. And you can change "slovak" with any other nationality, and still not conclude that they are all clean.

The thing about Colombia was that up until the summer of 2013 it was a lot more difficult to do testing for the Athletes Biological Passport there than in Europe. There were no lab in all of South or Central America that could handle that kind of tests. Adding to that the logistical difficulties of collecting samples in remote areas and the 48 hour time window for testing the samples.

I don't know what body you have but getting sick from travel? and stress? he's increidbly happy to go back to his home so why stress and sickness?

I can describe quintana in the following way which would explain on a personal level why he wants to go back to boyaca and this accounts especially for all other boyacans. he is married(since 18). having a child and he's always been and lived in boyaca. boyaca is the most quiet desolate place almost on earth. when quintana was 19 years old he traveled to eurpe for the first time. he was going to do a race in italy when on the french border he accidentally crossed to switzerland. he described how he went nuts from all the noise. cowbells, even the littlest sounds put him off. can you imagine being in switzerland mountains and hearing noise? no that's how quiet the place is, he's from. most of these riders hasve to be raised in europe and the adaptation is hard. it's a completley different world. when beltran signed for saxo the first thing he did was visit the church going in on his new specialized bike, which is the most normal thing to do in colombia where the bike is holy, but not here. some even have to be taught to not eat with their hands (uran)

hrotha said:
No, that's how he eats. To know how he dopes you'd have to ask someone at Sky, or at OPQS, or that training buddy of his that got busted.
training buddy that got busted? hmm...you mean Henao? and if you do, so far, the UCI/WADA or anyone has suspended him or proved that he was doping...so dont be so quick to judge
