Wouldn't be ironic if Bama wins it all beating Texas in the final - a rematch of the game they lost to them? That would sure shut up the critics. Lol

This reminds me a little of the 2017/18 CFP controversy. If you recall Bama shockingly got the 4th playoff seed over Ohio St. Bama was a 1-loss team that didn't even play in the SEC Championship game! (Bama lost to Auburn in the Iron Bowl game - so it Auburn vs Georgia in the SEC title game).

OTOH, #5 Ohio St, though with 2 losses, was the Big-10 champion beating #7 ranked & undefeated Wisconsin. The controversy started when the committee selected Bama over Ohio St putting a non-conference champion into the playoffs, as well as having two SEC teams in the playoffs. The Ohio St faithful was up in arms calling the committee corrupt, biased & playing favorites for the SEC (the Big-10 was left out of the CFP!).

In the playoffs though, Bama took care of business decisively beating #1 Clemson in the semi & beating SEC champion Georgia in the final! (this was one of Saban's finer moments of his coaching career). That sure shut-up the critics that the committee actually got it right in selecting Bama.

Watched the Heisman awards and it went kind of as expected. All the players had supportive, faith-based families and had played enough seasons to be this good. Each honoree was humble and hopeful for the future.

None of them thanked their teammates. No vague references or specific thanks. Hope the NFL teaches how the team game is played and, hopefully the Nat Champ QB gets the opportunity to rectify that oversight.

I'm not a fan of Bama and I don't like how they got into the playoffs (bizarre favoritism by committee), but I have no doubt now that they are in they have a good chance of winning the whole thing. I would actually put my Monopoly money on Bama now that they are in.

Having said that I wouldn't mind seeing Bama v. Texas in the final, I'm just not sure the Huskies can match up to the strong defense of the southern teams. There's always all this talk about the fast-paced West Coast offense and whatnot, but that offense usually gets dismantled by a strong defense. On any given Sunday though and all that... hm, we shall see.

Most of the prognosticators agree with you. Two forecasters had Texas beating Wa by a couple of points, another by 10. The ESPN computer rankings have them at the bottom with 8.5% possibility. I'm sure the Huskies will just stay home and pocket the air fare rather than get embarrassed by a Big Time Southern Team defense.

Ha! I'm not suggesting the Huskies just stay at home, I'm just saying if they manage to beat both Texas and then probably Alabama I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Deion Sanders is Sports Illustrated sportsman of the year. No wonder I quit paying attention to that rag years ago.
That's ridiculous. Sanders loses 8 out of his last 9 games finishing 4-8 with no bowl game & SI thinks he's something special. Lol.

In the meantime, CU is losing big-time commits:

You've got to wonder with his son as the starting QB - is Sanders's best interest for the team or his son, who he's trying to groom & showcase for an NFL career?

People in NY can try to sell whatever they want, but in reality, not too many people here over 22 yrs of age bought into the hype or cared too much about it. We're lucky enough to have better things to do.

It's doesn't matter if the people of Boulder didn't buy into the hype or care much about him, he's stuck there for 5 yrs. Lol.

AD Rick George signed him to a huge contract, loaded with incentives, that pays him a 5.5 mil annual base salary making him the 4th highest paid coach in the Pac-12! And Sanders has an expensive buyout clause in his contract in the event George wants to fire him.

So, Sanders gets the last laugh here and this is on the flamboyant Rick George for offering him such a generous contract for a coach who has never coached at the Power-5 level.

It's Bowl time!

Judging by our CN membership games of interest today are: Mines vs. Harding, and Boise State vs. UCLA! (And being my nephew went to Texas Tech [but couldn't care less about football/sports] there's a Texas Tech game as well, which I guess I'll have to follow for him.)

All of these games can be watched on ESPN+, good luck to all!

BSU had a really good first half moving the ball, but left 12 points on the field, plus a pick 6...you just can't leave 18 points out there. UCLA tightened up their D and BLEW open their O in the second half!

National Signing Day

Updated:

https://247sports.com/Season/2024-Football/CompositeTeamRankings/

1. Georgia
2. Alabama
3. Miami
4. Ohio St
5. Oregon
6. Texas
7. Auburn
8. Oklahoma
9. Florida St.
10. Notre Dame

No surprises - Georgia & Bama have been back & forth in the top 3 the last several years. Lol. Ohio St is consistently in the top 5.

Almost half of the "ESPN Top 300" have committed to SEC schools (note - Texas & Oklahoma are joining the SEC next year).

FWIW, the ESPN 300 #1 QB recruit, and only one of four 5-star QBs this year, signed with Alabama (what a shocker - Bama getting another 5-star QB recruit! Lol).

A very surprising result in the Oregon State Notre Dame game. OSU was for a time there in the running for possibly making the playoff, so for them to be crushed like that is strange.

FSU got destroyed by one of the best teams in the country.
-25 FSU players opted out of the game (15 or 16 starters).

M got an OT win to play for the title. If their kicker would have made the PAT, they wouldn't have needed OT.
