Credit to Mich winning without Harbaugh there. I had OSU winning this one. Lol. What's wrong with Wash? Tied at 14 at the half & letting the Cougars stay in the game! (is Wash looking ahead to the Pac-12 championship with Oregon?).
this game looked like some serious bad timing between Penix and receivers. Give Wash State credit for being in Odunze's bizness as much as possible but some key dropped passes, particularly in the 4th quarter killed drives. Meanwhile the Cougs played very well on both sides of the ball.
The ending shot of Penix hiding his head in a video booth while the field goal to win was teed up said it all, don't you think? He blew passes, Johnson almost ran for 100 yds on a bad foot, too. They need to heal up fast 'cause Oregon is hot to make a statement against them. I expect both of them in the top 10 until after the Pac 12 game...in Vegas?!!!! Talk about another wild card to make it even more spicey.
Officiating was questionable but not as bad as some other games today.

That seems likely the top 4 with Ohio St dropping to #8 behind the one-loss teams of Oregon, Texas & Alabama. Florida St beat their rival Florida with their backup QB. The Seminoles play Louisville in the ACC Championship - who was the only top 10 team to have lost.

Credit to Johnson for playing on that bad foot. I don't know if Wash didn't take Wash St seriously & was looking ahead to Oregon, but that was too close of a game. The Cougars are lousy coming into that game with 6 losses! (losing games to Cal, Stanford & Arizona St). The Huskies are going to have play much better in the championship or Oregon will destroy them.

The Cougs lost to Stanford and Cal by 3 pts in games that were completely different; Cal being a high scoring contest the week before Colorado. They beat Deion's team 56-14 the week before playing the Huskies which should have put all on notice. They did lose to Oregon by 14 pts...you can't draw a conclusion about power/parity that quickly in the (now defunct) Pac 12.
You're absolutely correct that the Huskies better improve their control to beat Oregon. The betting wonks show them as 9 pt underdogs and that might wake them up. If they beat Oregon, what are the odds the Ducks will drop well below FSU and Ohio and maybe down as far as 9th in the rankings? If the Huskies lose it'll be at least that much and all will be well with the Big...whatever and the SEC.

Just saw the PNW weather. Bet they are happy to be in Vegas.
Bah, what's a few rain sprinkles between neighboring friends?

Speaking of neighboring friends... back when I went to the U-Dub (early 90s) most people in Seattle didn't acknowledge the Ducks (or Eugene) even existed because they were second tier. This hateful rivalry didn't really start till the early aughts.

For several years, it was played at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara (remember the Buffs played the Huskies there for the 2015 championship?).

FWIW, I think the championship games should be played at the home stadium of the team with the better record/higher ranking.

This indoor stadium - neutral site protocol is stupid. 4 out of 5 Power-5 championship games are played at a neutral site indoors (only the ACC Championship is played outdoors). Part of football is playing in the elements. It tests a team's character & perseverance. Football was never meant to be an indoor sport.

I think it’s been pretty heated since the Kenny Wheaton pick-six for the OU win in 1994. Earlier than that, say 1990-1992, the Huskies were so much better than the rest of the Pac-10 (and the rest of the country), there wasn’t much rivalry to be had with any team. Except perhaps the imaginary one with Miami.

Well, the Huskies got it done, glad Oregon woke up during the second half.
Me too because the Consortium of Football Prognosticators would have downgraded both teams if it had been one-sided. The one thing I got from this is the UW offense can be a victim of their own hype until everything is on the line. Their D...and Mr. Johnson the running back that won't quit were the happy positives of their season. Bo Nix was a good tactical QB and that single quality was highlighted. That and the officials are good at gifting PIs to keep the game tight....
Mike Penix is a serious physical savant and that won't get him a Heisman but may get him a career. The hit he put on the Duck trying to take him out of the game when he ran off the left side should make NFL scouts take note. The Duck defender needed medical attention. Mr. Penix has got a mean streak.

So now they in some sort of playoff that will still likely favor the status quo. After all, UW only beat a team they beat before so both of their ratings should go down, right?
If that is Michigan in the Rose Bowl it will be the sweet redux of clashes past. We know Woody Hayes tortured soul is ready to rise but the prospect of all coaches in Michigan's past suffering one last loss in the Rose Bowl is beyond epic. The East Coast broadcasters all want Georgia vs. Texas so it's not a known who plays the CFP finale.

I'm a sad, aggrieved fan. My Son, who I sent to school, attended WSU. He has a Coug tatoo and all he could offer up after all of my support and attendance at rainy, losing Polouse suffer fests for the historic UW triumph was: "I didn't think Oregon would play that bad."
Coal for Christmas for that one.

Ha! Having lived in Eugene for years now I completely lost touch with the Cougs-Dawgs rivalry. I actually don't mind the Cougs at all now and wish them well against any other non-PNW team. Same with the Ducks when they play big non-conference games.

Vaguely related, one summer years ago I painted the wooden bleachers at the old Husky stadium as a summer job, we also painted the crew house. The football players had been staying at the crew house for summer training and had completely demolished the place... there was graffiti and gum stuck under the beds, it was clear the players had no respect for property at all. It was pretty gross.

You're probably right. I just remember during Neuheisel's reign things got particularly nasty, at least here in Eugene. I remember hearing the Duck fans spitting on Dawg players and such, I was like when the *** did that happen?? This kind of animosity did not exist when I went to school precisely because, like you had stated, the Dawgs were just so much better they didn't even acknowledge the Ducks as rivals. The Ducks saw the Dawgs as a rival, but that feeling wasn't mutual.

W with a W!

There is so much great football on today that there is literally no way to watch it all without burning up the remote and scrambling my brain! :tearsofjoy:
I'm glad the Washington - Oregon game was last night because today's schedule is pretty tough to compete with. I'm sure many, many eyes will be on the Georgia - Bama game, I have no idea how to call that one. I guess I'll just play it safe and go with Georgia.

They are football players.
I enjoy the Cougs and am still a Gardner Minshew fan.
