I think it is a very mitigated showing at Tirreno. It shows that they are not yet ready for a GT invite on merit. There are teams better suited for these rare slots.

the problem is they have serious training shortage. they went to north of italy where it was freezing 2 months ago and simply they couldn't adapt to it. a huge mistake by corti. they shiould've gone to south italy, spain or stay in colombia until their first races. also lack fo racing days as well. duarte is a clear proove of this. he really sucks now. that isn't his normal level as we saw last year in opening weeks with geox.

It's the first race of the season for the current overall leader

you can;'t compare horner to anyone. the guy is a rare breed. he trains harder than people race and besides he trained in the usa, in altitude and in nice weather. unlike the colombians that corti send to bergamo for **** sake where it was -10 and snow everywhere. a friend who visited their team told me in their houses they live they had heater up to 30 degrees and ran around almost naked. trying to emulate how it feels in colombia. in fact I'm sure almost none of them have ever seen snow before. let alone race and train in it

still it's very disapointing and a HUGE flaw by corti. you can only make a first time big impression and they haven;t done now. they also aren't racing catalunya which is a race way more suited to them than tirreno. in april we will see them in paisc vasco and the spanish races I hope

Hah, it's the Colombians, so every excuse counts ;)

Duarte is indeed a bit worse than expected. But what could you reasonably expect from the others in their first WT race?

guys like chavez won avenir. we all know how quintana does now. suarez has raced in europe before and done well. he is in very bad shape. atapuma, others are strong. and duarte isn't a bit worse. he is far worse than he is normally. it's a mistake every colombian team makes at leats once when going to europe early. that's why last year cep went to europe/spain in march for the first time in catalunya and stay long in colombia. because in 2010 cep also sucked when coming to europe in february and they rode badly because of the long lasting winter. this year you could see quintana did not have those problems as he came to spain in february. uran came in march even

Didn't Quintana get a stage win for Coldeportes in Vuelta Ciclista A Murcia and didn't Pantano have a good showing in Strada Bianche? I think if folks are going to direct their ire in a direction it should be at the one's who built up the unrealistic expectations, not at the team itself that is just trying their best to compete.

My bad.:( I'll still give him credit for representing the Colombians well. Maybe we're a bit early in saying Coldeportes is not worthy of a gt invite. It is just March.

Duarte was the leader and he underperformed, little wonder that the rest of the team that rode for him didn't get any results.

You're right. How've NetApp been getting on this season?

I know it's a rhetoric question, but the sad answer is: even NetApp had a better start into the season. Daniel Schorn and André Schulze with second places at Trofeo Palma and a Ruta del Sol stage, solid GC performances by Huzarski, Dietziker and Brändle, a top 5 TT performance by Jan barta at Murcia. But this you know already, don't you? ;)

The first Top 10 appearance of any Coldeportes rider in this year is still to come... and I don't see it anytime soon.

your argument is pretty stupid. colombia have had 5 racing days prior to tirreno. and not a single mountain. it's like saying when do itv1 score for first time in a mountainstage.

That's Cortis fault. A lot of Columbian guys from PCT or even WT level (Rubiano at Clasico de Tuta this year, Uran did this in 2011) did some races home in Colombia before starting their European season. The younger Coldeportes guys should have done the same. Instead they shooted some nice-to-watch but nevertheless useless publicity videos in the Alps.

Coldeportes have shown extreme naivety this season in their preperation so far and that is not excusable.

I'm not denieing that I'm saying you shouldn't balme the riders for that. blame corti which I do in fact. he made a typical mistake that also cep made 2 years ago

It's almost like Colombia is like other cycling countries, producing both winning riders and others who don't do so well.
