About 4.30pm UK time assuming they ride at the same speed as in the 2013 British nationals.

I think they'll finish earlier than that. They start at 12 and it's 168km. I would expect them to be comfortably over 40kph, especially with the Aussies trying to control things.

Could be quite an interesting race. Australia will be focusing everything on bringing it back together for a sprint, but:

(a) Even with Australia's superior team, that's not easy to do. Rarely do Commonwealth/Olympic road races end in bunch sprints even on flat courses. (Edit: In fact, looking back over all Commonwealth and Olympic Road mens' road race since 1980, I can't find a single bunch sprint for the gold)

(b) If it is a bunch sprint, who will Australia be riding for? I would have thought Renshaw would lead out Ewan, but it's not certain and they're not revealing their plan.

I'll be hoping other teams attack repeatedly and Australia can't keep it together. Geraint Thomas or Jesse Sergent for the win.

Australia has a lot of decent engines riding this - Durbo, Dennis, Hepburn, Haas and if Simon Clarke punches it on one of the short, sharp bergs who can go with him? Thomas, probably but that's about it.

If Aus are smart they should get this, they just need to know when to ditch Ewan and Renshaw if things get too hot and ride for Clarke, Dennis or even Haas instead. It's almost theirs to lose, just don't do what GB did at the Olympics.

Having now watched a few laps of the womens' race, this is going to be a tough course (narrow and technical at points) for Australia to keep the break contained in the mens' race.

There was a women's racing thread last week, and the majority of the tiny number of posts were a debate about why no one was posting in that thread.

As much as i'd love to hear how this is all a symptom of the patriarch's control of the media, I'd rather we just talk about the races people care about. If that means you get a discussion on the women's race, then good luck to you.

A good tactical performance by the English team, according to Boardman. As far as I can tell their tactics have basically been a variation on 'have the two strongest riders in the race'.
