Correct me if i'm wrong but the reserve bikes on team cars don't have the vittel number just below the saddle. The one in the crash most certainly does.

Contador crashed, changed bikes with Roche, got back to the peloton and crashed again. The bike that broke is the one he crashed with the first time - it didn't break because of the crash though (although the impact may have caused it to break later)

Well I would think that too but don't wanna sound like a fool when I'm not sure of protocol.

I think the bike sponsors might have had a say in the story, I'm not convinced it wasn't the result of the crash.

Having said that, if AC did hit the back of a large pothole at 70/80 kmph then any carbon frame would struggle to hold up against that force so I don't hold it against the Tinkoff-Saxo bikes.

There are three bikes involved: Contador's race bike, Contador's spare bike and Nico Roche's new limited edition McLaren Tarmac.

Contador crashed with his race bike.
He got Nico's bike and raced back to the peloton. Nico was seen on the side of the road with Contador's bike.
He crashed again, on Nico's bike. (This is the bad crash)
He gets his spare bike and rides on, but abandons 18km later.

Meanwhile, Contador's race bike, on top of the Tinkoff car, gets stuck in a Belkin bike, on top of a Belkin car. Contador's race bike falls off, and breaks in two.

According to this article, everyone is pointing finger at AC saying he took too much unnecessary risk.

My theory is he is planning to attack Nibble, if succeed, it would be genius and a huge blow to Nibali confidence.

Attack Nibali on wet descent?:confused:That sounds more like froome not tactical genius like contador. He knows Nibali is better descender;)

If it was frame failure. You can bet your *** Specialized wants no part of that getting out. Example Schleck dropping the chain-which anybody who rode that version of the Red Front deaurallier knows was a chronic problem.

There is NO WAY the team will let that out. There explanation sounds shaky at best to me. If I had to guess Berto was reaching in his pocket as has been said. He its the pothole. Bam! Frame cracks. Rest is History.

The winner of this Tour will be the rightful winner to me. He can only control his actions/ride. He will just have to defend next season.

IMHO..I think Nibs has it done. Porte/SKY are not the same. For whatever reason?????

No, he wasn't planning to attack, he wanted a better position before the start of the next climb so tried to pass some riders on the descent.

I said it was only my speculation, but you have to admit if this is the case and succeed, it would be genius.

Contador wasn't riding that bike when he crashed. Check the pictures. The bike next to him is the new Tarmac, with a black and orange paint job instead of the usual yellow.

I never read the book either.

But did you prefer the Peter Ustinov version, OR the Albert Finney version or the David Suchet version?

Think I liked the Albert Finney version myself.

I saw the same talk the last 2 years too "the tour is still long..."

If nibali doesn't crash or has a really bad day this tour is over. The riders left don't have the capabilties and the balls to do something crazy.

None of them have even podium'd the tour, this is their chance to do that and they'll take that chance.

I feel a bit sad for nibali because we all know that he didn't beat the strongest and although he definitely deserves this win it's still not against the 2 best. And that's how real champions like nibali want to win.

Very true. But I'm sure that on Champs Elysee Nibali will get over the regret he didn't beat the two proper till the end. With all GTs in the bag he can pull another heroic Angliru and loose, though he has improved steadily and logically during the years and is one of the most consistent GT riders in the world so a few more Grand Tours are doable. But this is not over, he has to stay on his bike and be healthy.

LaFlo Thanks

I just read the article on the CN main page. Dam! Sounds like AC made a bad call on the road! Gutted! Dam!

I'm confused, their race bikes and spare bikes are different versions ?

This tour went from a "The good The bad The ugly" showdown, over a "Once Upon a Time in the West" style duel til just some dude shooting bison when he wants to...

I know, a very bad analogi but I am watching a terrible western.

Valverde told Spanish radio: "I saw him [Contador] crash right in front of me. His handlebars slipped when he hit a pothole"

That's it, so it seems. He was trying to get repositioned after a previous fall (Roche by the roadside) and road too fast into a pot hole. Argh!!!!!!!!!!!
