What in the world are you talking about?

Here, I'll clear it up for you:

1-There is a poster here making clearly bigoted and uninformed comments about Spaniards and Italians.
Maybe, but it was days ago and dealt with at the time.

2-An adult -- me, in case you missed it -- comes in and calls him on his vile with a counter example of broad-brushing.
Your definition of yourself has yet to be borne out by the evidence. You were days late, off topic, mysteriously outraged, unsubtle in thought and word, and raking over the coals of the past.

3-You prance into the thread and scold the adult.
A mods job is to keep the threads on-topic where possible. You transgressed.

Great job!
Yes, when someone with your nick comes along and starts flaming then mods tend to notice.

ok.. i assume this is aimed at me.. i missed the argument

ok.. firstly i did say i was generalising, but was in no way being racist.. it was not generalising all spanish and italians.. i was in fact generalising certain spanish and italian waiters who spend the tourist season seducing predominantly english women with their smarm, flowers and sexy accents.. I will point out that a large number of english bar staff do this as well with fake posh accents to impress foreign tourists, as do aussies and americans etc etc.. it wasnt intended as racism, it certainly wasnt generalising an entire race and i apologise if it appeared that way..

As far as bigotry goes, "requires the elements of obstinacy, irrationality, and animosity toward those of differing devotion." i do not beleive i am obstinate, or irrational and i dont have animosity towards entire races, just certain elements.. uninformed, maybe, i really am only going on stereotypes portrayed in media and on tv etc over the years, and reports from freinds after holidaying and experienceing themselves some of certain elements of society, but admittedly i have no first hand experience of spanish restuarants or waiters..

Mental health issues, i have made some aware of the difficulties i have in another area of the forum, but they dont effect my ability to think, have opinions, or make decisions, i purely worry about things slightly more than i should and occasionally get scared of irrational objects..

apologies again if it offended you, was not intended that way, its what comes of being brought up in a country living on fawlty towers, benny hill and monty python.. stereotyping is rife, and generally aimed at ourselves...

and having apologised for any offence i may have unintentionally of caused you, i will leave it at that. i didnt realise id caused such a stir, initially my comment seemed to be taken as the humour it was intended to be..

i think probably you dont understand

to me, slimey, is the sort of greasy, sneaky, usually and sadly, but unracist, spanish or italian, slick hair, snappy suit, the kind of guy who works in a bar and tries to impresse your girlfreind by talking crap in a sexy foreign language, and smarm his way into her affections..

will smarm his way over to her as you are leaving a restaurant, come out with some smarmy greasy one liner and hand her a rose, and she goes home dreaming of how wonderful and romantic he is, when you're the one paying for dinner..

slimey like a snake, untrustworthy, greasy, unpleasant..

ugh...

You pretty much are getting the picture, Red.

Your options are to let morons and bigots post freely while dragging any sort of divergent point of view into the gutter (happily no less) or to leave after waiting for the mods to wake up to the situation.

I tend to think the moderators have a tendency to have a similar point of view with the classless, bigoted posters so the mods don't really see why it's a problem. It drives out anyone who disagrees.

They can't figure out they have anything to gain by enforcing civility. You have to figure out you have nothing to lose by leaving.

Not that I want to start a war here, since I'm new to these boards, but I think ggusta pretty much nailed it perfectly.

can i just point out, i explained my comments in great depth to red fury several posts ago, i also apologised if he had taken my comments as offence, as that was not the way they where intended.

do we need to carry on discussing it.. if so feel free to pm me and i will explain the reasoning behind my comments and explain that i am neither bigoted, racist, or a moron..

the general purpose of apologies is an explanation, at which point the subject is dropped..

Sorry, I wasn't referring to anyone in particular. I was just referring to how moderating seems to work on a lot of message boards. I certainly don't know anyone here well enough to say anything specific about any person here. It was just a general observation about other message boards I've visited, not directed to anyone here.

Yes, I think contador is going to stay, referring to this article.
He will only leave when the UCI doesn´t give astana the license.
He was very positive about astana. And he signed a new contract with specialized, as you know.

Carlos Arribas/El País/November 15, 2009 - “They’re very good bicycles, quite a bit better than Trek, hahaha.” Alberto Contador jokes when talking about the contract that he signed yesterday with Specialized, a California bicycle firm with whom he will ride next season. At the same, he time takes the opportunity to slip in a reference to Trek, also an American bicycle on which he pedaled in recent years, and a brand which will be forever associated with Lance Armstrong, who will ride on a different team next year.

The agreement—for one year with an option by mutual accord of more, depending on the future of Contador as of 2011—will be finalized in the next few days, when the last few details are settled, with another contract of co-sponsorship between Astana, the team with which Contador will fulfill his remaining year of commitment, and Specialized.

“The team looks great,” says the cyclist from Pinto, who in order to make the agreement official is only waiting for the UCI to give the Kazakh team its license for 2010. The deadline for the awarding of ProTour licenses is next Friday.

Associating its image with the figure of the winner of the last Tour, the only cyclist who can compete with Armstrong and Trek on their turf—the North American market for quality bicycles, the most mouthwatering and lucrative—has its price.

According to the Belgian press last week, Specialized was ready to pay a million euros as a contribution to the Spaniard’s salary of five million, to the sponsor Quick Step, one of the teams that wants to sign him. Astana, where it will also contribute to Contador’s pay, will be the third ProTour team supplied by the American company, together with Quick Step, with whom it partnered in the days that Paolo Bettini won two World Championships, and Saxo Bank, the team of Luxembourg’s Andy Schleck, dauphin to Contador in the last Tour.

During the last Tour, in fact, Contador had to pay out of his own pocket for the wheels of the bicycle on which he won the time trial at Annecy, since, say his friends, the team’s best pair of wheels were reserved for the leader, Armstrong.

By creating an agreement with the brand that invented the mountain bike, Contador will not only avoid those problems, but—and it’s a sign of his rank and his global impact—joins the lineage of only a few riders in history who have had the ability to dictate their choice of mount as general issue for the teams in which they ride.

The agreement also emphasizes the ferociously individual way in which Contador must forge his way in a sport that is going through great changes. While other historical figures in Spanish cycling, like Perico Delgado or Miguel Induráin, simply worked within existing frameworks that provided for all their needs, Contador, ever since Manolo Saiz’s goup dissolved, must invent his future every year.

Next, at the end of 2010, he will have to decide whether to sign with another team, like Caisse d’Epargne, or to create his own, with his sponsors and suppliers. Perhaps, in this sense, his commitment with Specialized is a sign of the trend of things to come.

I don´t know if this is already posted, and if this is the right thread. ;)
btw, I´m glad he broke his contract with armstrongs Trek.

He took the team cars. He stole all the wheels.
He skipped parties, the celebrations, and meals.
He cleaned out the team as quick as a flash.
Why, that Grinch even took their last can of Who hash.

Just one more reminder of how fuked up the situation was with Astana last year. And good on him for signing with Specialized. I'm sure he's going to enjoy the Roubaix during Stage 3 of next year's TdF.

I love the way some of you keep posting these rumours as fact. They all come from the AC side, the other parties involved haven't responded, yet AC supposedly is a great guy, full of class, and LA is the devil. Not a balanced perspective in the slightest. I see far more AC slams on LA than the other way round. The trek comment is another example.

If all these alleged stories were false truths I'm quite certain you would have made it your life's mission to dig up info to refute them all. In addition I would think that someone from the Armstrong/Bruyneel camp would have came forward with their version of the events. They have not and I really and truly do not believe its because they have chosen to take the high road since they failed to do so during the entire 2009 season and during the Tour. The bottom line is that it troubles you to see that your hero has behaved in such an un-hero like manner. You are struggling with this new image of Armstrong as the jack*** that many had insisted that he was long before this drama ensued. Its time to bite the bullet and accept it. Relieve yourself of this overwhelming burden that you carry. You'll thank us all for it later.;) By the way, could the "AC slams" of LA be because he's deserving of them?
