I think the problem is not how much they like Alberto, but your definition of like. For most people, the idea if liking someone does not go hand in hand with believing that they can do no wrong. You seem to think that one must either "like" someone, and therefore everything they do, or else they are a "hater". The world isn't like this.

People that criticise everything he does are who I call haters. To avoid being called a hater by me, one has to like at least something about Alberto.

You didn't word it as an actual question though. It wasn't "Do you believe..." but "lol, you believe...", which implies you find it ridiculous that he could believe Andy is clean.

Greg LeMond and Laurent Fignon could barely keep up with the pack once EPO had hit the scene. Just because a rider shows signs of being one who would thrive in a non-doping environment does not mean they aren't doping.

At school, we had two kinds of maths exams - those with and those without calculators. Some students are very good at working out difficult problems without calculators - they have a natural appreciation of how numbers behave and are able to apply it to the problems. Unsurprisingly, students who can think like this do best in the exams without calculators. However, just because they are very able without a calculator does not mean that doing 1657x2482 is easier without a calculator. Even the student who is best at the non-calculator exam still uses a calculator in the other one.

Yup. I've been trying to say this many, many times, but she doesn't listen. She's branded me a hater, because I think someone who is caught with evidence of rule breaking (note the careful wording) should be punished.

The dopers ... ahem, the people who show evidence of breaking the rules ... fall into two categories: those who say "it's a fair cop, yes, I did it" (like Ullrich), and those who continue to plead their innocence when actual and circumstantial evidence indicates that they're guilty (AC, LA, et al). You have to have a grudging respect for those who accept that they were caught cheating, and take their punishment.

Look, for me a person is a hater when they like nothing a rider does.
They don't like to see him win, because he's a cheat.
They don't like to see him race, because he didn't admit he doped while just trying to save his image.
They'd much rather see him locked up, like UK's hero Brad Wiggins so kindly suggested.

Really, if Alberto had admitted doping people would hate him even more. Don't act as if he would be some sort of hero if he had admitted.

Yeah right. "People in general" argue that all that greatness is mostly doping. You can't say that you don't like that he's doping but that you do like him a bit because he's a great rider.

Okay, I can agree with that. Although the image of cycling is a very complex issue.

(The image of) cycling is managed incredibly unprofessional, by opportunistic and weak authorities and individuals. There is no sport that damages itself so badly as cycling does, time after time, that hunts down its own heroes or let (in the idle hope of transparency and a better image, but accomplishing the exact opposite). There is no sport I can think of that handles its image that poorly, where individuals speak out if they like to about the 'dark sides' of the sport, gossip is out in the open and authorities are (willingly or not) cooperative to actually catch dopers, make stories and damage the sport they should manage and protect...

I, therefore, can very well understand your view on things, and why you find it hard to justify treating those who got caught any worse (beyond them rightly serving their ban) than those who haven't tested positive. I'd probably even bring that up a notch by thinking that getting caught (especially being a star) and make a big deal about it is very much cycling, and therefore it's indeed hard to justify treating those who get caught worse than those who haven't...

Tell that to football (or soccer, however it is called).

It's all hypocrisy and business, that's all. Pro sport is big business, nothing else.

I never said I liked him as a rider. I said I respected his quality and ability as a rider. You can`t dismiss that. I just don`t like him with regards to doping.

But as I said, how many of that quality and ability is the result of doping? Just trying to think like someone who "criticises him for doping".

Even if he was`nt doping, he is not exactly going to end up in the grupetto on a mountain stage is he?

You know what it is? Some people actually care more about exciting racing than about doping. Call it a bad attitude and all that, but that's just how it is.

Why would I criticise Alberto? Seriously, I would be slightly disappointed when it comes out that he doped but whatever, I know that it's a possibility. It wouldn't change anything for me.
