Poor Pat is very concerned about Cookson's troubles. It really is touching that McQuaid is so concerned for Cookson, and to think I thought McQuaid was bitter

It's not right to ignore the limits of Cookson's rights to influence the decision, or the extra obligations that have been placed on Astana. Most aspects of such matters were taken out of the hands of the president for a reason.

All of us want any action taken to be legal. Why not read and think about what Cookson has said about this? All progress and change has to be achieved by proper means.

I make no comment on American politics. It's not relevant either. But I don't believe Cookson lacks balls.

I always had the impression that the President is in charge and like Obama it seems he has his hands tied or IMO lacking the balls to really shake things up even if a lot of sh%% will fall. It's easy to see what is going on. We have now quite a lot of evidence that riders are still doping. We have riders riders who are so called clean beating these doped riders. We have riders from the tour winners team busted. Doping is going on all over the sporting world and Cookson is just meandering to what he thinks the media should hear. He knows whats really going on just like the previous incarnation of the UCI.
It just carry's on the same. Time we adjust to the fact that athletes dope re think the rules and the way high level pro sport is run.

Asked if he believed that things were better under Cookson, he indicated that there have been improvements. “One thing is sure – they are better than the past. That is for certain.”

that's also what a certain Ashenden warned the public for, not too long ago.

Despite the self-serving data bending and associated propaganda to the contrary, I am led to believe that there are pockets of organised, highly sophisticated dopers even within ‘new age’ cycling teams. Personally, I don’t accept that the ‘dark era’ has ended, it has just morphed into a new guise.

My guess is for now, WT teams can race all the way down into "3rd division." But, as races are demoted by the UCI demanding more money/control/whatever eventually they get restricted to racing at the second division.

Say goodbye to a bunch of traditional races.

Zevenbergen said that he received a visit from Martin Gibbs, the UCI director general, in late December, 2013, as the Ethics Commission was investigating claims that Russian federation president Makarov had promised one million euros ($1.36 million)to the Union Europenne de Cyclisme (UEC) in exchange for a Cookson vote.

"Martin Gibbs came to Amsterdam to discuss this with me on the 27th of December. I would not say he asked me to resign, there was some pressure, he said he did not want to continue with me.

"He said if I stayed, it (the Ethics Commission president job) would be an empty function.

"As a consequence Peter Barth from Germany resigned from the commission."

Sources told Reuters that Barth, who left his job in April, felt the independence of the Ethics Commission could not be guaranteed anymore.
