Bloody hell, the danish girl ought to have been better placed. She was like 20th with 250m's to go =O

She definitely had the best finish. Her position was just horrible given the work the two other Danes put into the chase. At least they got rewarded for their efforts, but it could "easily" have been gold if she had positioned herself better!

Cardiff, that's where she came from. A second Worlds medal for the Maindy Flyers junior club. They still have Luke Rowe, Nicole Cooke and Geraint Thomas to come in the next three races.

Thanks for that. However, my comment was about where she came from in the race to take the win, not about where she was born/lives.

Anyway, I thought she was from Leicestershire?

Does anyone know the predicted finishing time of the U23 men?

I'm in Tuscany right now enjoying my holiday and didnt expect to have a tele in my appartment, but now that I got one I would like to watch the U23 men race. Or atleast the last hour, having a lazy day anyways.

Ciao

2004 Freire would be the top favourite here. He'd have the other guys for lunch. He decided to grow old to give others a sporting chance.

She is.
I assume Mambo means she's now based in Cardiff and rides for Maindy, not Leicester ladies, which is what I had previously thought.

Yeh, Freire likes to win when you least expect him to win so it's risky to say he doesn't have a chance, but I doubt he wil beat Sagan or Hushovd in that sprint. Cavendish if he survives might surprise as well...

They start at 13:00 CET (your local time) and race for 172km (right?). At 40 km/h average that means 4 hours 20 minutes and a finish at 17:20. Dont know how fast to expect them to go. But if you tune in at 16:00 i would assume you would get about an hour :)

They do 14 laps which is 172km but dont they also ride 28 km from Copenhagen before they start the laps making is about 200km?

Yes, you're right. My mistake. I was confusing her with hee teammates Amy Roberts. She's the one from Cardiff (as well as Elinor Barker).

I think the junior women just averaged fractionally less than 40km/h, and although it was a very short race compared to the U23 men you'd still expect a faster pace there.

I'm surprised people are knocking Ratto and Kroeger so much - if they'd had anything left they would surely have gone for it. They seemed to both think it wiser to save a bit for one last kick, and the fact that even while doing that Ratto was instantaneously absorbed didn't speak well for their chances of hanging on any which way.

Wishful thinking. Siggaard was on Garner's wheel with 400 to go but couldn't follow. She missed out on the silver but Garner was in a class of her own.

Ratto came 11th in the sprint, so clearly had something left.

And that was waiting and recovering as long as she did. A longer sprint would hardly have helped her chances I feel.

Really? She looked strong and better positioning would have meant she'd have finished higher but it looked to me like Garner was a class apart in that sprint.

It wouldn't of been about a longer sprint, but about time trialling their way to the finish.

Their chances of winning from a group of two were far greater than waiting for a bunch sprint with fresher, stronger sprinters.

But each of them would have been thinking, "Gotta save something for the two-up sprint." I'm not saying there was nothing they could have done better, but I didn't see it as some tactical collapse that several people are making it out as - they were tired and played it out the way we see these things play out prettty often.
