From a selfish point of view I wanted that race to continue but given that the roads were starting to become flooded and just two weeks ago a rider died in similar weather conditions its totally understandable that the riders wanted to play it safe and cancel the race.

You guys thought EF was late with posting their rosters?
Bora just posted theirs on FB, a couple of minutes ago...

I'm, errr, slightly confused.

Perhaps they're punishing their riders by making them ride the Tre Valli Toodarktoseeni.

Am here in Varese for this (obviously disappointed) and this was Yorkshire Worlds levels of rain for 24 hours now. But they didn't have the dangerous descents, dodgy Italian roads/drainage systems. I've loved everything else about the town.
Unfortunately the town itself is getting worse and worse, but it's still got nice surroundings. There is a nice climb to Sacro Monte that always deserves a hiking/cycling trip.

His dentist does not like this picture, but I get Enric has reasons not to smile.

I'll post a map and the solid start list for today's Gran Piemonte here in honor and the continuation of Italian Week, don't think it needs its own thread. Today is one last warm-up for those who will be racing Il Lombardia against Pog on Saturday! (Uh-oh)

Kaden Groves appears to be the heavy favorite, but because I want to be different and I'm stupid I'll go with Pinarello for the win! (Or Fred Wright) :D

And they're off in the Piemonte race - I won't have stream coverage for a while (at least I hope I'll have some coverage), so I'm just following the race on PCS for now.

For those of you who also don't have any visuals yet here are a couple more maps in the meanwhile.

Valdengo - Borgomanero (182km):

And thread name changed in recognition of that.

At last some live images, I don't speak Italian so I'll just have to use my imagination as to what the Rai commentators are saying. They've been showing some lovely, historical images of Valdengo, and apparently Ganna wasn't hurt in the CRO race after all seeing as he's racing today. (Finally found that out.)

Break of 4 and peloton roughly 5 mins behind, 85km to go

And they are inching toward the big climb... I think this route will have a little bit of everything scenery-wise, I'm looking forward to the green stuff and the hills. Some clouds in the background...

Who is the Alpecin rider who is wearing black socks with the denim jersey, btw.? It looks terrible.

And they're climbing, Ponomar, Zukowsky, Munoz, and Colnaghi are the break, peloton is about 3.5 mins behind.

Lovely images of green hills and some chapels !

Peloton picking up the pace on the climb... some parts of the road look wet even though it's not raining. Was it raining earlier?

They went all out, doubt this will be a sprint. Descent is also wet so could be even more splits.

And now the descent, peloton barely 1min behind, 58km to go...

Lots of green trees turning to autumn colors, the scenery is very jigsaw puzzle worthy.

I don't think the peloton sees that group again. By the time the peloton gets bigger and organized the gap is probably up to 2 minutes.

Motoman's camera lens is wet and blurry, looks it's been smeared with vaseline. It's pretty trippy.

Beautiful heli shots of a lake and some old architecture!
