Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

Er no torches..........the naked flame types anyway, It's bushfire season again.........hope it's much better than the last one ! Although one illegal camp fire just made a mess of Fraser Island.

As for the recession, politicians are quick to make that call when it suits them, going into one and out of one it seems, but the average person probably doesn't feel much different household expense wise at the moment and the unemployment rate is still 7%.
The only reason the average Australian person hasn’t felt much so far is that the government quickly provided massive economic support - eg JobKeeper. JobKeeper is also artificially keeping the unemployment rate down - underlying unemployment is over 11%. But JobKeeper is being wound down. Public sector workers are so far insulated. Thankfully economic data shows Australia’s economy rebounding sharply but this is heavily dependent upon iron ore exports.

It's a numbers game..keep your car in the garage..stay inside..not too windy in your house..heads of state are in ultra risky jobs period..
You can't be briefed on Corona virus vaccines, task force findings, domestic terrorists, political misinformation and Russian hacks into the guts of your government without talking with people..and if you don't read or use email..whammmo!

this case could really put Governor and government on it's heels if it goes to trial and temp ruling stays in place before a verdict is handed down!!

The daily cases in the U.S. are peaking or plateauing--at least until Christmas travel and parties--but the deaths will increase, as they go back to when cases were still rising. And all we have to do is look back to those times to see what the deaths will be currently. On Nov. 25, I projected there would be 17,447 deaths from Dec. 10-16 (post 4590). The actual number was 17,775. For the three week period Nov. 26 - Dec. 10, I projected 44,788 deaths. The actual count was 46,025.

The CFR does seem to have dropped a little, though. Since hospitals are stretched, my guess this is not due to new medical advances, but mostly to older at risk people making even more efforts than before to get out of harm's way. Based on this lower CFR, it appears that we will have about 41,000 more deaths through the end of the year, for a total of about 85,000 for December. I expect that beginning early in January, the vaccinations of nursing home patients will start to kick in, and we will see a big drop in deaths (to about 2000/day if the cases stay at their current plateau). In fact, a drop in those numbers will be the first validation that the mass vaccination really is working.

Fauci was talking a few months ago about a possible 400,000 death toll in the USA. Don't think he will be out by very much.

So apparently the latest Aussie cluster was not seeded by Aussie based crew who fly overseas - Anyway proposals for this cohort to do 7 or 14 day quarantine/ISO will not work because air crew work on the basis of a 40% fixed contract and 60% flying hours, so they will refuse to fly and live on the 40% wage. And if you implemented this then they would never see their families.

Jagar, what does BTW refer to? The numbers in the third column are not the product of the numbers in the first two columns (price/dose x number of doses). Why not?
BTW = VAT
Some of the prices in the first column are euro, some dollar, but in the last column it's all in euro.

Quite clear to see why the Astrazeneca vaccine is the best hope for much of the world. Storage is one thing, price a very important other though. If the J&J vaccine only needs one dose (they're testing both one and two dose options), it's also relatively affordable.

Upthread, I posted a link about the surge in rural Kansas, killing lots of older people. The mayor of Dodge City, one of the hotspots, recently resigned, because of the threats she was receiving. Her crime? She supported a mask mandate.

Here's a long argument for targeting vaccines first to those most likely to die. I thought that's what the plan is, but this doctor mostly wants to reduce the number of health care workers getting vaccinated, as they aren't at high risk for dying.

Tucker Carlson going full anti-vaxx on his show tonight under the guise of 'just asking questions'. You know the frozen fishstick heir is going to be first in line to get his shot, so the effort is really cynical af. But it furthers my belief that there is no chance in he11 that we hit 60%.
I really dont know what they want. They are against vaccine and restrictions. Ok so after vaccines will be for masses we should ease every restriction. It is their choice. I read some comments on FB recently. " I will rather die with Covid than with vaccine.". Ok, then.

I was kind amazed when the leader of the free world was considered an idiot for his infection. “Can’t protect Americans if he can’t protect himself..” or some such nonsense. So anyway, y’all make the rules of the game so you’ll have to forgive me if I play by them.

In California about 60% of the new cases are in the 18 - 49 year old groups. We are also seeing the excess deaths, while elevated, are not anything like what we saw in April/May timeframe.

So I think your analysis is about right.

I think we will get to 60%. It won’t be government that does it, it will be business. You want to get on that plane? Show your vacc cert. Concert or sporting event? Show your cert.

Want to go change the titling on your house at the County office? Show your cert.

In fact, if congress doesn’t protect business owners from potential covid liability from employees I could easily see this mindset filtering way down to movie theaters, restaurants, bars, etc.

You know perfectly well why this was suggested. Not taking basic precautions, organizing mass meetings, etc. Half of his staff was ultimately infected, and that's no wonder.

There's just no comparison with Macron, and you also know that. You're just baiting.

While Macron routinely wears a mask and adheres to social distancing rules, he hosted or took part in multiple group meals in the days before testing positive Thursday. Critics say that´s a bad example for compatriots advised to keep their gatherings to six people.

Very Newsom-esque.

No baiting here... just, once again, showing a glaring double standard that many of you gleefully traffic in.

Chris I am being sincere, not a grain of troll in the question. Trump is considered an idiot, initially for what he said to Bob Woodward. His actions reviewed through forensics reveal that he knew the dangers of the virus but did and said things contrary to the facts he acknowledged in private conversations. His words and actions without question have put millions worldwide in danger, and undoubtedly increased sickness and death world wide. Anyone traveling in and out of the United States, anyone living in the US has surely been adversely affected by acting on gross quantities of misinformation spewed by Trump and his team of turds..
And to coin a phrase, we are again turning a corner..which ends up being a circle, but the corner Trump so often references illuminates that false hopes of testing, false information about seriousness of the virus, but primarily inaction..are deadly and deceitful..dreadful and destructive.
as the President of the United States, his conduct, his representation of 100% of the country should always, continually be questioned..was let's say playing golf or tweeting in the common good of the country and it's people..was it time well spent to protect the country.
The only logical conclusion is he has at the very least wasted valuable time protecting our citizens.
That is said as if he just drank a 12 pack while playing 18 holes, but that is not what he did, he repeatedly told people that the virus was overblown, the virus was under control, was a world wide conspiracy to foil him personally and politically and he repeatedly stated crazy claims about kids and athletes not getting the virus, he praised snake oil, malaria drugs and zinc as viral cures..
There are legal provisions to pardon all behaviors both legal and moral while he held office. He will obviously not be judged in a court of law, but my faith says he will in judged

If his deeds are scrutinized in any way on any level of decency..lying to old people, lying to children and their families about the dangers of the virus is unforgivable.
seeing what he knew, when he knew it. Given the current available data, who is dead and dying and he doesn't have an executive order, a law in place to protect old and others living in congregate settings is blasphemous

Looks like the Dems want to make a deal with Trump:

"Let's make a Covid vaccine deal: You admit Biden won, we thank Trump for Operation Warp Speed:"

"Democrats should acknowledge that Trump did something good and Republicans should stop their hugely dangerous lie that Democrats stole the election."

So...Unchained, Trump can't be all that bad. Lol.

"You can't sue Pfizer or Moderna if you have severe Covid vaccine side-effects. The government likely won't compensate you for damages either:"

"Under the PREP Act, companies like Pfizer and Moderna have total immunity from liability if something unintentional goes wrong with their vaccines."

"A little-known government program provides benefits to people who can prove they suffered serious injury from a vaccine."

"That program rarely pays, covering just 29 claims over the last decade."

No wonder there's anticipated low compliance and hesitancy with the Covid vaccines. If Pfizer & Moderna would stand by the "high safety" they claim for their product and remove liability protection, more people would be willing to take the inoculation.
