Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

The vaccines are being pushed by "Big Pharma" which incidentally has a lot of control over the mainstream media though major advertising dollars, as well as being the biggest lobbyist in Congress outspending big oil & gas by a 2 -1 margin! Pharma also provides significant funding for the CDC & the FDA.

Big Pharma is the juggernaut here and since the vaccines are shortly rolling out, their strategy goes into full effect in an effort to obtain high compliance. They're not going to tolerate "choice" in this matter. They want mandatory vaccines for everyone in this country...period. If someone is uncertain about the safety of the vaccines because they were rushed to market and would rather wait & see or just altogether decline, forget it - pharma isn't going to allow this and will do everything possible to force compliance through various strategies.

There's talk of states mandating it (particularly the Blue states), and this specifically is what Biden said he wants. There's talk of employers requiring vaccination. There's also talk of having an Immunity Certificate ap on your phone showing proof of vaccination that would allow you to use public transportation, attend sporting events, patronize certain businesses, etc.

It's egregious that Amercan citizens may not have much of a choice on a vaccine rushed through the clinicals with unknown long-term safety data, and also appears to do little in stopping the transmission.

I think RFK, Jr sums it up nicely in this interview. The guy has been suing regulatory agencies for 40 yrs and knows quite a bit about the corruption with Big Pharma:

Well...IMO, the liberal "agenda" is Democratic-Socialism with complete government control over people's lives. I spelled this out in an earlier post on the "Divided States of America." You can clearly see that play out right now with the Democratic Trifecta states (e.g. WA, OR, CA, CO, NM) implementing barbaric lockdowns & harsh restrictions - consequently destroying small businesses, restricting gatherings, shutting schools down, limiting capacity at churches, closing gyms, enacting curfews, discouraging socializing and psychologically enslaving people. These governors are enamored with the power of playing dictator and really could give a crap about Constitutional Rights & personal freedoms.

OTOH, the Republican Trifecta states (UT, TX, OK, SD, FL, MS, AR, TN) are handling their increasing case numbers & hospitalizations much differently with the idea of not destroying small businesses & schools, and trying to limit the amount of infringement on personal freedoms.

In fact, you can see this polarization already developing on the vaccine issue: Tennessee, a Republican Trifecta, will not mandate the Covid vaccine onto the childhood vaccine schedule allowing the parents and other people a "CHOICE" - a word the Leftists want to abolish.

"The Republican added: "Vaccines are a choice and people have the choice and will have the choice in this state as to whether or not they should take that vaccine."

Conversely, New Mexico, a Democratic Trifecta, can force individuals - under threat of house arrest - to vaccinate people against their will:

So...there you are; welcome to the Divided States of America.

I did not follow this thread more closely in the last weeks, but I think this post goes deep into conspiracy territory (and politics, anyway).

Can you stop victim blaming in your posts
I didn't victim blame anyone. Nothing I posted is inaccurate. The Victorian state government isn't a victim. They caused the problems in Melbourne. The Health minister even resigned. The victims are mostly elderly 800 people and destroyed businesses. That is an easily verifiable fact. As for Sydney, NSW has world's best practice contact tracing. That's why when there are outbreaks ("while it escaped twice from quarantine in Sydney ") it was quickly traced and isolated. That won't happen in other states like Western Australia and Queensland which may partially explain their reluctance to open their borders.

The tone of your post and the use of words suggests you are victim blaming - I'd argue that Australia was lucky with their outbreaks in the hotel quarantine setting which has been poorly designed for those who tested positive on arrival.

I think Australia is fascinating..huge import export component to the economy, tourism and education also big chunks..toss in a few unnatural disasters, get some smoke particulates in the air..an island nation..and really a big pie w the population all along the crust but little filling..
what could be a perfect or better strategy for containment of the virus spread?
I think world wide experts are pretty accurately factoring public resistance to policy. You don't see mass arrest or jailing for non compliance.
It's like back in the day in NYC when they came up with dog poop policy, pick up after your dog, or you could get a ticket from the cops..few to date are issued by the police. Instead public pressure, shaming works on most people.. Covid behavior restrictions are about the same..people who are going to do it will..without shame..everyone else sees that micro personal behavior change, micro amounts of sacrifice may accumulate to a benefit..
Australia has done an excellent job..

I’ll go ahead and assume you forgot to add the word ‘intentionally.’
No it was intentionally omitted it from my rant..intentionally or accidentally..it's been part of your reasoning before..the binary BS of of half of America..Will wearing a mask driving your combine in rural Iowa or Nebraska help ? Yes..but to what extent? Probably a decimal places moved way way over. Do mask prevent everything? No..but they are part of a puzzle piece..but the loud drumbeat of no masks,no anything..that can't work..just from the front end math of medical caregivers and hospital capacity in every way.
so here we are post Halloween, and soon post Thanksgiving..the numbers of everything will go up for everyone, because of the actions primarily of half the population. Christmas and New Year's predictions are dire, deadly and disappointing..The numbers will go up,not arguable but it would be great if something could flatten the curve.
So the deranged fairytale were wearing masks is 100% effective or the other yarn were not wearing masks and pretending that Covid is over or really never here is a horror.
New Mexico is the good one this week..@41% of all Covid-19 deaths are in the Native American people..they make up 10% of the NM population..so why are those deaths not important? Why is FEMA,CDC and any other pandemic everything from the federal government not w laser beam intensity, not there putting out the very specific and targeted area of the known disease disaster?
The answer is the same for " essential workers " ,blacks,Latinos, and native Americans..we know where the problem(s) are the worst..why no action? Can the answer also be superimposed over the constant, immoral and then insistent message that the virus is fake, masks are useless, it will blow over..that message is primarily spewed in Whitelandia..why?
We are one country, the President is responsible for all 50 states,he was elected to govern for all Americans..all..somebody should let him know..you can't ignore dead, dying and sick people because you don't like them or see their value as human beings..

Chris you don't have to care about other people..people you will never meet..people that if you met would probably dislike or greater..
but you should care about those people..
people meeting for Thanksgiving, who were negative..mixed with asymptomatic holiday revelers..they also leave and become more of the same..asymptomatic carriers..so the perpetual motion machine continues..more reinforcement of nothing to see, move on..
If the message that science is irrelevant, fake and foolish is not scary to you..wait until the next serious thing happens..and it's going to happen
if your actions are spiritually based or completely pragmatic..the health and wellbeing of everyone is a concern..to everyone

Why don't you ride that motorcycle of yours over to the reservations and tell them to quarantine for the next 14 days. I bet that would go over real well.

One of every 1250 Americans dead from Covid-19

Meanwhile, in the same time frame, Old-Age-19 has killed one out of every 90 Americans--many of whom were attributed to Covid-19 though they would have died from Old-Age-19 anyway.

I joke. I joke. Well, sort of. You need to keep this in perspective.

The whole mask use thing seems weird to me, like not wearing a helmet while cycling.

What's up with the flu numbers in the USA? It's not the masks and distancing, must be the lack of testing?

This really is an American way of thinking..and shall I repeat..reservation to reservation..town to town pandemic plans don't work, they can't..
Americans have a weird sometimes non existent learning curve..fracking, mountains of whale bones that we harvested for lamp oil..1800 @60,million buffalo..1890..1000 left..strip mining..rivers that burn from pollution..1900 flu pandemic..@650,000 dead Americans..we love to repeat unlearned history..
people hear busy typing about patriotism, personal freedoms and the constitution..
You can't even start reading the pledge of allegiance or constitution without within seconds coming across passages demanding of us care for our country and our countrymen..
The idea to let people die for racist, anti Constitutional, anti American motives is a travesty..dereliction of duty in the highest office, in direct violation of the United States Constitution..
lobbing internet bombs my way is OK..I expect nothing less from red hat wearing clods wearing their footsy pajamas in mom's basement..I am here in my Underroos..waiting for my VHS cartoons to rewind, rubbing cream on my bone spurs, marvelling at my framed Tour D Trump poster..but soon rather than us try and one up each other on the troll totem pole..the country, in winter will need to work..work together..not through tweets, but through actions and science..trust me, I know it is not over night..after all we have been traveling in the wrong direction,no map, blindfolded,no map,and the lights turned off..but once an adult puts the car in park, checks some signs,a map and a compass..there is hope.
we have seen what a town to town plan looks like..@275000 dead Americans..and the dead from all other existing scourge..all the time, pause for golf or to compliment the investment class for a stock market number..
history is going to be ugly for 45.

The tone of my posts does nothing of the sort.

Yes I am aware of your opinions on Australia’s quarantine but it has worked very well as any glance of the numbers proves. Of course it could be tightened but what happened in Victoria was due to incompetence followed by hopeless contact tracing.

The last I checked, the U.S. is doing more testing per capita than nearly every other country. There were only two countries doing more, Britain and another I forget. This will undoubtedly produce higher numbers, which will freak people out. Even so, the ICU numbers in some places is not good.

I attribute some of this to lockdown fatigue. During March, April, and May for large parts of the country covid-19 was something happening in New York they watched on TV. By the time they should have been locked down, people were fed up with staying at home. Being summer did not help matters either. For a country this large, a single policy ended up being counterproductive, both virus-wise and economic-wise.

Government shutdowns and overreach causes more harm than it helps.

Nah, that story about Japan's suicides must have been fake news. It was reported by CNN, and everyone knows they have a leftist agenda, and would never run a story that suggests lockdowns result in a lot of extra deaths.

I don’t remember there being any exceptions regarding freedom of assembly in the 1st Amendment.

I seem to remember your guy trying to break up free assemblies in several large cities, on safety concerns. In fact, assemblies are frequently banned, or at least require permits, for that reason.

The whole mask use thing seems weird to me, like not wearing a helmet while cycling.

Very good comparison. I don't ride a motorcycle, but aren't there a lot of people who do who won't wear a helmet? I saw some pictures of guys at Sturgis on their bikes w/o helmets, but that was in town, in a sort of slow parade. I don't know what the situation was when they were out on the highway. Of course, a helmet mostly predicts you, not others.

Motorcyclists, especially Harley riders, definitely ride helmetless. I think it that has to do with the wind on your head being part of the experience and the reason they ride in the first place. Maybe wearing a helmet is like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission. I don't know. I am not a motorcyclist. The same people will ride with nothing on their arms or no shirt at all, totally exposed to the sun. But that's okay; chicks dig skin cancer.

Why are deaths of Navajo Indians only a travesty when its Covid related? Suicide rates, death from drug overdose and death from chronic liver disease (Cirrhosis) runs in some cases 3X the rate when compared to rest of this Country. Tell me, do you think lockdowns will make those rates of death and destruction better or worse?

Flu season doesn't really kick into high gear until December in the USA. Still time to get a vaccine if you are interacting with people regularly. Still difficult to say whether it will be highly effected by covid precautions like many other countries have experienced.

uhhh, single policy for the USA? Lol. Your making it too obvious.

Most consider riots, the burning of cities and large scale looting events slightly different than a Constitutionally guarantee of free assembly.

There have been about two dozen shooting/stabbing deaths resulting from protests and rallies. There have probably been about 2000 cases deriving just from church services--and this is just among attendees, or people in close contact with them. Assuming a CFR of 2%, that would be about 40 deaths. Depending on how you define assembly, there are many, many more.
