Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

Yaco and Ultrairon pretty much summed it up already, people testing positive while hospitalised for a different issue. The main indicator is that London covid hospitalisations have been going up for 8 or 9 days but the patients on ventilation number hasn't risen at all. Usually these two values follow the same trends within a day or two of each other but not this time. Also reported that average time spend in hospital is loads shorter
What percent of the cases are people who were in the hospital for something else?

In the USA the CDC says omnicron is the dominate varriant. Why would the UK be different?

Every hospital regardless of issue requires a test before admission. They could be coming in for a finger surgery or appendectomy. They are required to test and then its a positive for covid. They did not show up to the hospital with covid symptoms and in many cases will never show symptoms. Yet they are admitted into the hospital for the procedure they showed up with and are now a covid patient.

Speaking as someone who works at a bospital, testing is not something new. If the population has about 1% infection incidence, hospitalizations are not being driven by people with covid who are there for a procedure.

Uk is not the US. Delta might be receding, but it has been stable at 40k. Omicron is accumulating fast. Most of the hospitalizations are delta still.

They are not going to provide data because they don't have it. This is the debunked argument that people are dying with covid not from covid part II.

This is not people coming in just because of severe covid symptoms this is medical center wide. It does happen.

You want to call someone a fascists again? Reported. You only troll its terrible.
Check your spelling; that was never written.
When your posts are purely personal opinion: based on no generallay accepted facts you become open to a response on the same general forum basis. Whine to the hills all you want but no one here really buys into one narrative if they want the truth. Your accusations are personally directed and not based on long term history.

The Mods don't need my input to adjudicate our discourse. This statement pretty much stands for itself:
The beuracrats want you to wear a mask in your own home. If they could they would require it and punish those who do not comply. Meanwhile the tv doctors continue to spread garbage via the media.

Loses on spelling, grammar and validated value content. See you next year or never. BLOCKED

Yes, most of the early data suggests omicron is significantly less virulent than delta. But it is still early days and governments are erring on the side of caution until we know for sure. In my country, yesterday QR code check-ins in all hospitality and retail settings were re-introduced. I hope it is only for a short time.
We're still seeing deep concern for at-risk persons. My over 60, heavy.....Brother in law is post-implant surgery recovering and in charge of a major college medical program in the US on it's 4th/5th wave of exposure and medical response. He is very familiar with risks. My rock-climbing Brother still holds strong beliefs in his natural health (he has zero exposure history, is 65 yo and lives the rock climbers dream/hermit life and claims credibility to a dogs breakfast of vax theologies) and still wonders why he can't go into any restaurant and hang with family? We have a newborn niece in the mix, too.
What do you do with this blender of Christmas seating arrangements?

There's no official study (that I'm aware of) but it can be inferred from the serious hospitalisations/ general hospitalisations ratio. There were similar reports in South Africa a few weeks back. Either way there's increasing evidence that Omicron is milder. The next month or two will be rough purely due to the number of infections but it looks like this wave will be short and sharp, and once it's over I've a feeling things will be looking up. Fingers crossed!

you have absolutely no way of knowing that. A lot of places in Texas are hurting for icu capacity.

In Maryland, cases, hospitalizations, and icu are shooting upward. A lot of that is probably still delta. But even if omicron is less severe, if it infects 5x as many people, we are still boned.

I don't agree. I bet that the percent of people who are in the hospital for other things who contract SC2 is a very small percentage of the overall number of people who are in the hospital for SC2 care. I also disagree that it can be inferred using the serious/general ratio that you propose. Even if you are correct that they came to the hospital SC2 free and contracted it while they were getting their hip replaced, they still have SC2. A lot of other variables that aren't accounted for either.

I am not sure what boned means. I don't believe or should say I hope you are not rooting for this virus to be worse. Your posts shoot down good news though.

This is for the Texas Medical Center. On December 19th it was @ 115 9% of 1,256 total beds.

In a larger area that covers almost all of East Texas. 193 ICU beds in use. The historical data is good to see and also to note how that local news story does not mention what 52 hospitals. The majority has to be small rural hospitals that have little capacity to begin with. I am not sure but maybe majority of the people are unvaxed in those rural areas.

You should honestly be banned for suggesting that I am rooting for the virus to kill people. Just one of the most heinous things you can say about somebody. And completely unfounded. I had to cancel my trip home yet again because of this virus. But unlike many people, I am not going to pretend the guy urinating on my leg is actually rainfall. We are in this mess mostly because people would rather hear the happy talk than face reality.
the truth is that the scientific consensus is natural origin. Here is a review from prominent experts from around the world. It was later published in the journal Cell, which is the most coveted byline in science.

I said I did not believe and hope you are not. Apologies to you. I don't think you are but the youtube posts previously about people dying after rejecting the vax had a bad appearance. You don't ever stop at punching down on good news. Please don't over react.

The problem with that scientific consensus you cite is even now they can't say without a doubt because of the actions of the Chinese government.

As a reminder, 1481 people in the USA are dying every day from mostly delta. IMO, all the media discourse about omicron misses the point. Last December, my dad spent a week in the hospital because of covid. My desire is to see as many people protected so that they and their loved ones don't experience that. Dying with covid is particularly brutal for patients and the health care workers involved. If pointing out the pitfalls of antivaxxers is bad optics, I can live with that. They are the ones whose actions are leading directly to the deaths of people. And many are doing it for base reasons.

Everything we have learned about this virus the last two years indicates that it originated in nature like SARS and MERS. Unless someone invents a time machine, there will always be some doubt. That is how science works. There are plenty of people who want to shift the blame from themselves by pinning it on a convenient foil. And China is perfect for that role.

What do you do with this blender of Christmas seating arrangements?
So Christmas season came with a small group and masking into restaurant space until seated in Seattle. The Rock Climber spent time training. So far the season has been good and safe for all involved.

My Son's inlaws gifted them a pre-Christmas cruise out of Florida. All had credentialed vaccinations and the youngest just went through his Covid-positive quarantine period and was allowed to go.
What could go wrong when an industry works hard to assure cruisers are appropriately displaying their vaccine status....who's checking the crew, vendors, etc?
My Son and Daughter in-law both "got the 'rona" as they admit; displaying symptoms on the second day home. They're thankful they are vaccinated to mitigate the extent of the response and secondarily grateful they landed in Florida. Had they been destined to Mexico or most anywhere else they'd still be on the ship. They're less happy that they need to report the airlines and everyone else they met from Florida to home.
Yeah, that happened. No one's laughing at this end.
