Yeah... I have a seperate 2010 and 2011 sheet for looking up... thought it would be fun to track the change in points for riders from last year to this year. Was also using 2010 to verify people were under the point limit.

Sounds like you have it under control then, and I wasted a couple hours time :( no worries though, if you need a hand let me know

If he wants to use yours, that's fine as well. Excel stuff is fast and painless. I do which I had thought to do the string functions though... would have saved me 15 minutes of deleting. I'll be stealing that to quickly cut the numbers off and then put them back in on my existing spreadsheet.

kurtin would you mind sending your spreadsheet to me to have a look at? Both you, Ferminal and bicing have been very nice and create something that seems to work. Since I will be the one updating I will probably use the one that's easiest to use/have best layout since I'm not that good at the whole Excel thing :)

I tried to avoid the Aus track guys.

Trav and Cam will probably struggle to win the AUS Championships - which is where they got a lot of their points last year. They might hit a race like TdU, ENECO or Poland in form, but I think its a long shot. Both around 150-300 for 2011. Bobridge could be a bit more unpredictable, higher risk for higher reward. I think ACF could be on the money picking Howard, perhaps he's the best of the lot for 2011. Didn't race much this year but if he gets some road miles under his belt he could win a few more sprints and take 300+ points next year. I had Durbridge in my first team and he will outscore his 2010 season, but I didn't have the guts to pick an U23 who has a theoretical max around 150-200.

Howard said he wouldn't be doing much track anymore. Phinney also said he would be doing less but I think Howard at this point in time will pick up some points.

btw, Morabito still hasn't been added on to my score which makes the total price of my team look a bit measily. It is 7207 but +282 MORABITO Steve = 7489

That just leaves Von Brinkman as being WAY over budget.

do i need to redo my team?

regarding spreadsheet.
If they do only release points for certain periods that will work also with simple formula input linking the spring with total score.
In fact the whole spreadsheet system should be rather simple if using 2 pages (team sheet/rider sheet) and linking the two, and obviously updating rider scores.

Ya, I thought about Howard as well and in the end I didn't pick him because I thought he would still be gone in the early part of the year with track and I googled it and found him talking about worlds in march. I still think he will be busy with track next year right?

Another uncertainty would be who HTC would go for as a second sprinter instead of Greipel. My thought is that Goss will probably be the one that would get more opportunities and if Goss was cheaper I would have chosen him.

This is also a reason why I don't think it's such a good idea to pick Degenkolb. HTC have so many good sprinters that a neo like Degenkolb will probably have a though time getting enough shots at to be a good pick.

Kudos for the game and those assisting.
This thread could result in a lot of traffic for cyclingnews.com, and subsequent ad revenue so I suggest that the competition merits some prizes (eg monthly, mid season, overall, booby prize/wooden spoon/Lanterne rouge), similar to the prediction threads. I hope my team can perform respectably.

I vote for bicings.. that formula is a work of art.

My team and reasoning:
ANTON HERNANDEZ Igor 952 - He seemed to have the vuelta in the bag until he fell off, so that alone suggests an increase this year is likely. That and if he's targeting the giro he should get some more points there.
BURGHARDT Marcus 289 - A BMC underperformer, hopefully he improves
CHICCHI Francesco 287 - I think that his move to the more sprint friendly quickstep team should help him improve his score
CIOLEK Gerald 346 - Same as Chicchi
GERRANS Simon 140 - Had a poor year, should score much higher
GESINK Robert 1406 - In hindsight a bad choice. I think his score will go up, but not enough to justify spending 1400 points on him
HAMMOND Roger 279 - Should be able to double his score
HAUSSLER Heinrich 251 - Lost a lot of the year to injury. If he has a season similar to 2009 he will be a great buy
HIVERT Jonathan 283 - Lots of potential. Hopefully Saur get the necessary invites for him to score well
IVANOV Serguei 196 - If he has a 2009 season, I'll do great, but realistically he should be in the 500 range
KING Benjamin 149 - Talented youngster
KUMP Marko 134 - Ditto
LANGEVELD Sebastian 229 - Hopefully he has a good classics campaign
LÖFKVIST Thomas 319 - Good rider and will be the leader at the giro, should improve
MAASKANT Martijn 118 - Cheap for a guy that could podium in any cobbled race
NUYENS Nick 220 - Hopefully the Riis magic helps Nick ride well this year
PELLIZOTTI Franco 60 - How could you not pick him at this price?
PHINNEY Taylor 217 - Bigger races=more points. Hopefully
POSTHUMA Joost 99 - Low cost, should get to lead a little bit at lux too
RICCO Riccardo 756 - Should race more now that he is on a PT team, I expect him to finish the year around 1000-1200 points
SICARD Romain 174 - Talented youngster
STEEGMANS Gert 255 - Going home to quickstep should equal results
TEN DAM Laurens 97 - Bad luck this year made him cheap
VANDE VELDE Christian 90 - Same as Ten Dam
VANSUMMEREN Johan 147 - Another guy who can win or podium anything raced on cobbles

My basic strategy was to pick guys that had an off year rather than go heavy on younger guys that should step up, although I did take a handful of younger guys who seem to be more established, rather than gambles. Also, apparently any sprinter going to quickstep is on my list.

In hindsight I should have taken Dowsett and Durate, both should prove to be good buys.

Howard wants a gold medal in London Olympic. this will limit him on road.

Well Dowsett is down to ride SIX races with time trials in them at least by June. Thats probably 6 very good placings straight off. Very good value on him.

Degenkold can do classics +sprints. could be a EBH without TT

Good luck with that. You seriously think Dowsett will be doing spectacular rides and beating seasoned pros?

At the recent track world cup he said he was pulling out of the track program to focus on the road. Will try to find an article.

He and Cam will go to Berlin six-day and worlds track. This means not much point until May. From an article, i think i read it in cyclingnews, he said htc gave him a lot freedom to continue track. He has the talent. Hope he not waste it.

Dont forget that one can get a lot points from .1 and .hc. I think he can handle these races well.

I agree that he can probably get some pretty nice results if he gets his chances but the competition for leadership in races is fierce on HTC and I fear that he will not get enough chances to score really well. I think he will land at something like 150-200 points next year but I think it's unlikely that he could reach 400 points and that's more what I would like from someone who costs around 150.

i see phinney and matthews getting as many chances as any neo pro at htc or saxo has been given. BMC are making a special bike specifically for phinney for the track. Quite of few of BMC's bikes won some big awards and they are known to be top bikes.
