People doubting wether Froome is seriously injured and that he should not start the stage. Cmon. If you're that well in the GC, you just don't give up when nothing is broken.

And yeah ofcourse he lost time DUE TO THE INJURY. Being a Gesink fan for years I can recognize the sucking after a fall.

It's possible the injury from the crash was 100% responsible for the poor showing, but I'm not sure why he would risk further injury for a training race.

Wouldn't go as far as using the words "mentally shot," but I suspect he realized very soon that he was going to need more than the usual sprint uphill and/or Sky train to beat him.

That's why we're all here I guess. We still do not know whether Alberto is in good enough shape to beat Chris at the TdF.

Overall, I'd say this was a brutal race. Very hot weather and a lot of hard racing. A lot of riders probably went deeper than ideal and will feel it next month

If Froome was seriously injured, he would not have started the stage. He is somewhat immature, and relatively inexperienced compared to the likes of Contador. It appears as though he didn't have the will to fight when things didn't go according to plan.

I'm not a doctor but I've fallen on my hip, and taken knocks on my shoulder, and if you didn't know, these falls can be totally debilitating, especially if the bone is bruised. The pain and the imbalance caused by muscles having to compensate reduce your ability to perform. When you're performing at this level, the smallest niggle will wear you down, translating into seconds if not minutes. I think that Froome's performance under the circumstances was exceptional. Just hope that there is no cartilage damage to his hip which will take longer than 3 to 7 days to heal.

Having said that, I take nothing away from AC's performance today. Parabems Alberto, e boa sorte para o TdF. Espero que o pizza foi bom, e que o vinho estava cheio de anti-oxidants.

So why not pull out of the race after the fall? Why potentially put your TdF preparation in further jeopardy to win a warm up race? Heal up and make sure you are at your best on july 5

@ Publicus. Not sure. I can only guess that there were a number of variables considered to carry on- whatever it was, I have no doubt that all options were considered by team management and pro's and cons debated. Pro's would have included defending the green jersey, displaying the physical courage that pro cyclists are known for. The cons are compelling enough to make a strong argument against carrying on, and this makes me think that the injury was not serious enough to threaten his TdF, and that he would be able to recover. I suspect that Kerrison would have told him he was good to go, as long as he rode within himself and not worry about trying to get the yellow jersey back. They were rewarded with a win by one of their own, and Froome came out of it with a respectful performance on the day. 20 days of R&R should see him up and 'running' for 5/7. I'd be more worried about his recovery in time if this happened on the TSuisse.

The tragedy of Sky's Dauphine is the fact that they won 3 stages, and yet the overall result/main objective was never achieved.

meanwhile Contador & Talansky OTOH didn't win any stages & yet they walk away as winners.......

What a tactical mistake! I know he was more interested in sending Froome a message but... to think he could've killed two birds with one stone is going to burn him for a while.

And Tinkof... WTF! WTF! Jesus Christ! Where the heck were they???

Problem is if he responds to Nibali attack on that terrain he drags Froome and Sky with him and that sets up the counter attacks. Without a teammate I don't think he had much choice but to wait for the road to ramp up before making his move
