Great finish, great riders, small gap, everyone pulling through almost to 300 meters to go!!Jonas and Remco big instigators!! MvP wrist looks like a non factor.. Don't know why Remco sat it out!! He basically rolled for @15 meters not really jamming the sprint, Remco looked great!! Pogacar had sewing machine cadence, he was still winding it up as he crossed the line, sprint looked absolutely fantastic!!

EF spaced out and the less than 10 second gap was too much!!

He didn't look less explosive to me.
He was losing time on the long sustained efforts.
On the one truly explosive climb - San Luca, he was the only one to stay with Pogacar.
Today he had some serious horsepower!! Jonas was taking pulls that looked more like Wout!!and Remco was riding guys off his wheel, he looks super super strong and his speed looks fantastic!! The time trial looks like a complete toss up!! Explosive could describe anyone in micro break away!!

After San Lucca and Lioran sprint, Pogacar was going to lose the Tour.... Deja Vu.
Hasty conclusions.

He also had to close two gaps to Jorgenson today. UAE was once again disastrous. Narvaez missing today.
If UAE was a disaster then EF was the end of the world, they just couldn't keep speed, and Ben Healy riding excellent, just fell asleep for 3,4 seconds and that's all it took.. UAE, stage win, time kick, yellow jersey and man with climbing credentials absolutely destroyed all in drag race style sprint!! Visma had big presence, thought they would have more in top ten.

Wow, these guys are just in another level. Absolutely incredible.

Vingegaard attack wasn't random by the way, Visma played it perfectly. They saw that Tadej was alone so they attacked first and he had to close down the gap by himself more or less. Then Vingegaard counter attacked at the perfect moment.

VdP clearly carried the group and the sprint as well so it was going to be almost impossible for him to win.
Remco also very smart, deciding to waste less energies in the uphill section to hammer it down in the flat. Amazing.

Yeah - he planned it WAY before! :p

Danish interviewer post-stage:

"When did you plan your attack?"

Vingegaard:

"2 seconds before"

Vingaard the puncheur and sprinter really giving it to Pogacar today. Good racing.

Fastest guy in the group, did the most work
I think that MVP might not say so publicly but he was unpleasantly surprised at the power and speed of guys that are known for climbing prowess. MVP very recently injured, I will make an excuse for him.
But Jonas and Remco look like they are completely healthy and after first, super, super fast test ..a real confidence booster. Hair standing up on my arms when they were dangerously dangling in front of charging group.. And they ended up holding on by a thread..
I think it was Wright from Bahrain that buried himself trying to stay away, and a team that usually disappears, disappoints..Buitrago kept the wheel, contributed to rotation in break, impressive 2 fold.

By the way, having made my disdain for sprint stages known, I'm absolutely thrilled to see a sharp hill toward the end of the stage that can cull out some of the "sprint specialists." That made the entire stage.
As far as "sprinters" go, I genuinely don't care if you're super fast over like 300 meters. Good on you, that's what track racing is for. The only reason we have flat stages is 1) advertising for tourism, and 2) let the GC contenders rest.

He said he felt he wasn't recovering well from his efforts.

Still, usually Van der Poel is really bad this time of the season, so him doing this actually bodes well for him to actually do a lot on these type of TdF stages. And if it comes to 2 minute uphill sprints I will blindly back Van der Poel over the likes of Pogacar.

The sprinters today...

Please take this down !!! you see I have wet myself with sprint excitement and you will not allow me joy!!
I am having breakfast with my blow up Pogacar and Remco dolls. Amazon has back order of Visma items.. I might just get a Jonas poster and take down my Diddy and Justin Beiber posters and figurines..
if there is anything serious about today, MVP was not wearing wrist guard, no medical tape and he looked like he could put full pressure on his hand and wrist. Had Mads Pedersen not used all his juice in the Giro he would have won this @2.6 kilometer sprint..!!! Lol!!
