Why would he attack today. The Queen stage is tomorrow. He's only 58 Kg and could be dangerous on the final HC climb.

providing there is no wind, otherwise he might get blown of the mountain

appears to only be concerned with staying safe and getting the km in the legs.

Hopefully he has a go tomorrow (we'll know pretty quick I think, today he was at the back prior to the climb and made no effort whatsoever to stay with it) because the climbs suits him. I don't think he'll win, but some encouraging signs would be nice :)

I think even Basso was in the main group, so it couldn't have been all that hard...

And concerning Hermans, I dunno it's pretty surprising he was still there imo

Terrific win for Kern.
Great defensive work from Tommy V.

Gesink riding the Dauphine, like everybody rode last year's TdS.

I expect him to make a serious effort to take one of the final 2 stages.

Dan Martin out guns Tony Martin.:D

that's not the point.
Of course it wasn't that hard, it isn't like gesink got dropped because he couldn't handle the gradients.

It was clear he was soft peddaling. True he could have stuck with the group, but he obviously had no interest in doing so, he seems to be taking this tour prep very seriously.

i think this ends the basso has absolutely no chance to be in form by july talks.

not that this climb is a great indication. tomorrow will be different tho.

Anyone care to comment on Hermans' chances of holding on to a top 10 in the GC?

He was solid in the spring hilly races, and he did okay today... but can he hang on when the real climbs start?

Hard to tell. According to Bruyneel this Dauphiné is a first test. If he does well he'll get another in the Vuelta (source: Het Nieuwsblad).

I'm certain he wont be good enough at le tour.

In spite of my fanboyism I am inclined to agree.

I do think he could get on the podium and be very dangerous to Schlecklet ona 2009 type of parcours. But now Contador is with Riis no way will he beat him.

Week long races like this seem ideal for him though - he could rack up a lot of prestigious wins if he concentrated on them.

Of course the British public have no idea that the Dauphine is such a great race and Sky are not in this for prestige with the tifosi...

evans doing a great job of wheelsucking wiggans today, making absolutely sure not to waste any energy for his showdown tomorrow. BMC's support today was ok. but would have preferred to see them set a hard tempo but they are probably saving it for tomorrow.

bmc don't need to set a hard tempo or work. that was up to sky and they did a good job controlling it on the climb.

Don't overdo it. This is the 1st stage-race I can ever remember where Gesink didn't even try.
Ofcourse he had some stage-races that didn't went superb, but he never soft-pedalled on purpose before. That was 1 of the things i liked most, that he gave it a try in every race.

Now hopefully he won't become another AS/LA/typical TDF rider clown. Otherwise I'll jump on the JvdB bandwagon

The reason why cadel had constantly kept on closing the gaps was because he was he was quite far down as he was positioned that well.

no love for Vino?

he was right up there, pulling the faves along

(alas, he didn't have it in him to attack with his usual aplomb)

and he does a mighty pain face himself!

ACF Wiggo and Evans are similar diesel riders I think

Wiggo is more of an enigma than Evans, which is why Evans can appear stronger because he doesnt give up - but I think if one drops the other on a 5% they will drop them on a 10%

It's not like comparing Wiggo to Rujano
