I remember there was a thread recently about which rider is most likely to win their home grand tour and I doubt Caruso was even mentioned. It is crazy how much he has improved on his performances from recent years in this race.

I take it you didn't pay attention on stage 9 when he launched an ambitious, early attack with Mohoric and Mäder?
He can follow a team mate's attack. In a sense he's part of that attack. He needs the cramp to get some non-crampy legs, attack and follow that attack. I would say Caruso is now the favourite. Well, he's my favourite.

He's certainly not my favorite, but how awesome would it be if he won? This super boring Italian veteran, who slowly but steady grinds down his much younger and much more agressive opponents. Quite the narrative! I'll be rooting for him for the remainder of the Giro.

He's a top 10 for sure maybe a top 5. He needs everything to go his way to podium. This Giro most of the top contenders imploded on one climb or the other and he has taken advantage by being the most consistent and not wasting energy. But there is not much he can do in this Giro. He's already lost three major teammates. Even if he takes pink, he and his team will be hard pressed to hold it

Top 10, top 5 - what race are you watching? If Bernal didn’t just have a bad day yesterday, he’s the top favourite to win this Giro…

He's a bit one paced but consistency is everything in grand tours. So far he has ridden a great race but I don't see him riding away from Bernal on the remaining stages and hopefully he does a good TT. Has earned a podium so far and doesn't seem like he will suddenly crack.

BTW, with how well he's doing, can we just all agree once-and-for-all that being over 30 does not make you old?

You're speaking as if we are one week into the race. Sure, if he takes pink Friday, Saturday will be difficult but if he takes pink Saturday, he should be able to manage...

he wont'take pink but gotta love how he's clinging to every second he has over Yates.
He also looks like Horner when he gets up proud of his naked chest.....(any comparison window closes right here)

As heartbreaking as it would be I find myself rooting for Caruso.

I'm always torn between wanting (potentially) legendary riders like Bernal win as much as possible and have the best possible palmares and wanting more ordinary riders like Caruso to get their career-defining win.
